@3girls3cats Haha, maybe I did slip Jimmie something. But seriously, I don’t know why I got it first - I live in one of the farthest states away. I don’t see why the Illinois people didn’t get it first.
The carrier pigeons are going to hit Illinois on the way back.
Hi all! I am a NMSF in Kansas City with no rejection letter (yay!). I didn’t have time to scroll through most of this thread - senior year is crazy enough as is - so I don’t know if this information has already been posted, but I’ll give it a shot anyway to hopefully help out any undecided families.
Basically, I was set on one school for the first 18 years of my life until I saw the scholarships at the University of Alabama. Their scholarships for NMF’s are the best I’ve seen, making freshman year completely free (tuition, housing, a stipend, and others) and very cheap after that
I encourage any family who hasn’t yet made a decision for next year to just check out the school, because I am SO glad I did my research and am not stuck paying $20,000 a year at the school I thought I loved. Yes, it’s quite a distance from home, but Bama is a great school who really rewards hard workers (as I’m sure your kids all are if you’re on this thread) for what they did in high school. All that studying wasn’t for nothing now! The honors program is interactive but not burdensome, as well.
Okay, I’m off my soap box, and let’s hope Monday brings good news!
Congratulations @albert69!
@albert69 congratulations! I’ll celebrate for you tonight and for hopefully for my own son next week! Great News!
Congratulations and thanks again @albert69!
It is good to know those letters are finally on their way. Now, I have a day or two to prepare our celebration…
Outstandingly good news @albert69!!! So very happy for you.
I have resisted til now, but I am having a glass of Cabernet in honor of the first NMF letter!!! Woot, Woot!!!
@mwish1 you might want to look at the University of Alabama Huntsville. Their NMF scholarship includes full tuition, room and board for four years, along with a $500 book stipend and a $500 fee stipend
@mwish1 Congratulations that that you found an affordable and attractive option in UA. @mom2collegekids will be happy to hear that, and she can give you a lot of good information about the school since her kids went there. You should be getting your Finalist notification soon, one way or another.
Congrats @albert69 Awesome news! What a relief to get that confirmation!
Oh @Albert69! SO so so happy for you! You totally deserve to hear it first, and so glad you did! You are going to ROCK that scholarship! Best wishes!
So I’ve read through this thread to catch up but I would like to ask to confirm - if we did not receive a rejection letter at our home by now can we fairly safely assume S made NMF? 2 of his top choices for his major (petroleum engineering) offer huge NMF scholarships, well over full tuition for 4 or 5 years, so this makes a huge difference for us. Thanks!
@mmfrymire If you haven’t heard anything by now, you should be home free. Just a matter of time until you get your confirmation letter. I’m home schooled and my dad got the letter yesterday, so your school should have it soon if your S is in public/charter/private school. Individual letters are sent next week.
Thanks @albert69!
Oh, @albert69, I have tears of happiness streaming down my face right now. Congratulations! I’m so excited for you! As a mom, I’m so proud of you! That is outstanding news, and it’s poetic that our Official Student Poster would be the very first NMF to report-in. This was such a wonderful post to read, and I’m sorry I missed it yesterday. (I was away w/DS on a college visit.) I haven’t shared anything about this thread with DS, but I know that if he knew you - he would be happy for you, too. He doesn’t quite have the level of maturity you obviously have, but I sure hope he gets to that point over time Thank you for sharing this news with us, and please don’t leave the thread. I know we’re all interested in how the rest of your senior year goes. WSU is a great school - very much aligned w/the business community of the area, and nationally as well. Based on the major you’ve described, it sounds like an excellent choice. And KS people are mostly nice folks, too, so you will be in a good community at WSU.
Again, congratulations to you and your family! And thank you for sharing your great news with us here. Seems like we will all know the outcome of our journey, one way or another, by the end of this week.
@GoAskDad Thanks so much. We are definitely going to visit WSU soon, and I hope like it as much as I think I will. I am so happy that I made it. I just hope I can keep that 3.5 GPA. I didn’t choose to go into engineering because I thought it was easy, though; I know I have to work really hard.
I have loved corresponding with the people on this thread. You are all so helpful and funny and supportive! I’m glad I found CC so that we can all celebrate our collective success together.
Feeling a bit greedy asking, but does anyone know…
If you are awarded a full tuition scholarship as a NMF, and you receive a Pell Grant, is that additional aid? For example, can you use towards room and board? (Sorry if a bit off topic.)
Yes, of course you can.
That said, what will pay for the rest of the costs? room, board, books, fees and misc expenses will be more than that Pell grant and student loan.
@katecherry I just might have to do that! @albert69 thank you, and congratulations on becoming a finalist!
