Been lurking here for a while. This thread has become our family’s favorite reality show. Thanks for sharing your journey. We just got notified that our child is finalist. (Tennessee)
Anyone in or near Virginia hear anything yet from their school?
Nothing yet in North Carolina!
Florida peeps, @saismom, do you happen to know how FIS works with the University of Miami? S was offered a nice Presidential Scholarship but UM tuition is still unrealistic. I was told that FIS pays UM at the public school rate? I called UM but no response. Do you think that this is already included in their Presidential Scholarship, or is in addition to?
Cshecmia,
I think it would be in addition to the pres scholarship. I believe FIS pays Miami equal the COA at FSU or New College-one of those has the highest COA for a public university in the state. When we visited Miami last fall, they didn’t know a whole lot about FIS. We are wondering the same thing. I’m sure we will find out eventually. S still has not received word about becoming a finalist.
@canes19 we haven’t either, but I don’t think that S would have gotten the scholarship if UM didn’t know he was NMF. His other stats are not sky-high. Please let me know if you hear anything about FIS. I wrote UM and our GC but seems like FIS is a mystery to all.
Congratulations to the DC & family of @DuDadTN!
According to @DuDadTN, the regular posters on this thread are as entertaining as a reality TV show! I’m sure we will all take that compliment, assuming none of us is slated in the role of Honey Boo Boo’s Mama…

Adding TENNESSEE:
New Mexico - Sat 2/7 - homeschooler
Arkansas - Mon 2/9 - heard from school
California - Mon 2/9 - heard from school
Iowa - Mon 2/9 - letter rcvd at school, but not notified until Tues 2/10
Michigan - Mon 2/9 - heard from school
Nevada - Mon 2/9 - homeschooler
Ohio - Mon 2/9 - heard from school
Texas - Mon 2/9 - homeschooler
Indiana - Tues 2/10 - homeschooler
Tennessee - Tues 2/10 - heard from school
^^ this is a good question. I know from UM’s web page that they say they don’t stack scholarships. My take is that unless they make an exception for FIS they might reduce their school sponsored scholarship by the amount paid by the state, not that I think this is right, but if they treat FIS as they do other scholarships, that seems to be their policy. I’d make sure you get something in writing about how they we handle this.
Cshecmia
I will. We haven’t heard anything, either. I think they would have received the pres scholarships even without being NMF. A few kids at our high school received them. Other mail he’s received from Oklahoma, UCF, and Arizona sure makes it seem like they know he’s a finalist by the way the letters are worded.
Finalist
