Has anyone waited tables or worked in restaurants as a side job while working an (unpaid) full-time internship?

Many times. I also did it to support myself while working full-time low-paying jobs in my field. It's hard, but it's worth it. However, be advised: in general, you have to be at a restaurant by 4:30 for the pre-shift. Find one that's close to your internship, or work out a deal where you can come in earlier, etc. And start looking now; most businesses are anticipating a turnover as students go home for the summer so they're taking apps.

And do not get sick under any circumstances or the entire jig will be up!

Best of luck. Any other questions, fire away.

LoL

This summer, I'm waiting tables in addition to volunteering in a lab.

Take your vitamins, drink plenty of water, and get as much sleep as you can. It's grueling, but you'll get used to it. It's still not as bad as campaign work--I once had a 75 hour work week at just one job. There was never any time for me, just the DNC.
