Unprepared for the SAT Biology?

I'm taking the SAT Biology on Saturday. I'm TERRIFIED. I opened the Barron's Review book about a week ago to begin my prep. I took Honors Biology at one of the top prep schools in the country, so I figured I'd be fine. It's recommended by most to take the SAT Biology in AP Biology, but that isn't offered at my school until senior year. Taking the exam then would be pointless by then. Anyway, I've NEVER learned any physiology. Whether it be plants, animals, or humans I haven't learned it. I also haven't learned some of the phylum qualifications for animals. Will I have the time to learn everything? I have 7 exams besides the SAT this week and I think I'm screwed. I REALLY don't want to cancel because I'm looking to go into the medical field in an ivy league. How can I apply to ivy leagues with the intention of going pre med without a stellar score on the SAT Biology test?

Do I cancel? I'm so stuck, depressed, and discouraged. I think I'm screwed.

I started Barron’s SAT Bio and Kaplan’s SAT Bio last week Monday and just finished yesterday. I did not follow standard studying but rather treated them as reading Lord of the Rings series. If you like Biology, finishing any sort of Bio pre book must not be any problem. However, having SEVEN exams to deal in a week is…yeah…you got to drop either the SAT Bio exam or other exams…How come you are scheduled to have SEVEN exams in a week? Are they all standardized exams like SAT-I, ACT, CLEP, etc?

Not to sound harsh, but its quite honestly very stupid to attempt to take the SAT II biology with Honors Biology unless you are very committed to getting an 800 and working extremely rigorously for the past 1 or 2 months. The very fact that you’re trying to squeeze a lot of AP biology concepts within one week with lots of exams is plain idiotic.

Next time try to be more responsible and plan ahead.

I would suggest pushing SAT bio to a later date… plants, animals, and human body systems are a whole 20 chapters in the AP book. They’re filled with lots and lots of info, and if you don’t know anything about them… you’re kind of screwed, tbh. That, along w/ taxonomy, is really emphasized on the test. I would try to spread out everything as much as possible. You don’t want to have to cram all of your tests and do terrible on all of them b/c you weren’t able to devote enough time to each of them.

I don’t know much yet. Going to read Barron’s and Princeton before the test for a 700+.

You’ll be fine. I barely learned anything in my honors biology class, and I only studied for my AP biology exam for 2 nights (thoroughly at least). I am taking the bio SAT II june 2nd, and I’m still scoring 800’s on all of my practice tests, both E and M. The SAT II is a LOT easier than the AP because it’s not as in depth, and so as long as you know general concepts you should be okay.

Just read your study guides thoroughly, take a few practice tests, review the questions you got wrong, and you’ll be just fine. Plus, there is a decent round so you can get an 800 even if you omit 4, so if you miss a few concepts you probably won’t get lower than a 750.

Also, get a GOOD night sleep the night before. Once, I made the bad choice of cramming the night before and retaking some practice tests until 12 midnight. The next morning, I was brain dead, and I got a significantly lower score than I thought I would get because I was half-sleeping more than answering the questions. I did that for the PSAT as well, and I basically died. Yeah, sleep deprivation gets to you.
So in short:
Memorize all of the concepts, some minor details, take some practice tests, and once you do that, don’t panic and study more. Just get a good night’s sleep and a nice breakfast and you’ll do well on the test. :)

And the Barron’s SAT II and Princeton Review SAT II for Bio are not long at all. If you wanted to, you could probably finish both in a day. I did, and now I’m rereading Cliffnotes to ensure an 800 on the exam.

If you have a hard time memorizing some stuff about the human system, I find youtube videos very helpful. I watched khanacademy videos for the heart and memorized the pathway of blood in 2 minutes (I wish I had done this before because I had tried struggling for the longest time by attempting to memorize the pathway in text; it didn’t work).
