Unsure Chances: Columbia, Cornell, NYU

I'm not sure If I'm looking at the right difficulty of schools for me; My grades/SAT's are in the 50% range for the schools i want to go to, namely Columbia (ED), cornell and NYU. I'm a senior, applying next month for Engineering.

Stats:

SAT 2100: super scored math-690 reading-690 writing-720 (taking it again though)

GPA: 3.8 in all AP's this year, mix of honors/AP's last year. AP tests were okay, only 3's 4's.

Member of National Society of High School Scholars

EC's (my selling point, I believe)

Attend manhattan school of music for 8 hours on saturdays for pre-college program in percussion. tutor kids in music theory there, as well.

Play all of percussion and piano, music lessons every week, marching band, NYSSMA, made all-county (i consider myself quite good for a non-music major), good composition skills, play in a small band w/ friends

Principal timpanist for a youth orchestra that plays in carnegie hall, won a few student recitals at New York Summer Music Festival (+ scholarships)

give free music lessons to kids from my area

9 hours of ART classes every week at local art league, also teach kids there

a really kickin' portfolio or a non-art major (although i'm applying as a minor to some schools)

online ETSY business, selling art of mine. (featured in daily dot article)

also play tennis on the side (not in school)

mock trial club, philosophy club, president of national art honor society, publicist for Tri-m (music honor society), robotics club, science olympiads, German and Latin independent study program ( high 90's in those)

My essay is also superb, I have been told. Very unique and all.

What do you think of my chances at upper schools such as Columbia (i'm a legacy, visited 6 times, demonstrated great interest), cornell, and NYU?

Thanks very much!

I wonder how much Columbia factors in legacies but I’m sure that it is a reach even then. Cornell too.

NYU: High match

You have some pretty strong EC’s, but your academics are a little weak for Columbia so I would say Reach.

You seem better off at Cornell, but it still seems like a stretch, so High Match/Reach

I’d say NYU would fit well based on your EC’s. I would say a definite High Match (maybe Match)
