unused meal swipes

yea, its probably pretty good compared to others but when its the same stuff over and over for 7-8 months it can get kind of old lol

also, for some reason the dining hall loves to put white rice with pretty much everything it seems to be their goto side dish. chicken parmesan? lets put rice with it. meatloaf? rice. turkey? rice.

Smoothies are a ripoff too, but better than bottled water if you have swipes to blow.

OTOH, the difference between 14 Premier and 19 Premier comes to about $1.50 per swipe, so by that measure it would be a great deal.

Eh, I actually like it. I guess it depends on how well it’s cooked.

Interesting! On that note, does anyone know the exact number of swipes per quarter that you get with 19 Premier? 14 Premier?

14 premiere = 150 swipes

Fall Quarter:
14 Bear Premier = 158
19 Bruin Premier = 214

Winter Quarter:
14 Bear Premier = 153
19 Bruin Premier = 205

Spring Quarter:
14 Bear Premier = 151
19 Bruin Premier = 204

yeah, the bottled water/juices are a rip off, but it’s better than nothing if you’re left at the end of the quarter with 60 swipes. if you’re really concerned about wasting money, don’t buy premiere (i agree that it’s WAY more convenient, but if you don’t plan on swiping guests ever, not worth the extra money) and don’t buy more meals than you need. most freshman won’t even go though 14 meals a week, much less 19.

also, if you end up with an insane amount of leftover swipes fall quarter, change your meal plan. i don’t think most people are aware you can change your plan after each quarter.

Do they calculate the meal swipes by week or by term? For example, if I had the 14 swipes plan, would I only be allowed 14 swiped meals that week?

If you get a “Premiere” meal plan, then it’s by quarter and you can use your swipes however you like. Otherwise, it’s a set number each week.

Oh yeah, and about smoothies @ BruinCafe, you can technically substitute whatever you want in it and then make your own smoothie with whatever fruit. Just choose whatever premade smoothie for the base (the base is the juices and stuff) and then ask them to substitute the fruit :stuck_out_tongue: (Although they might not let you do this unless the cashier is your friend or doesn’t really care.)

^ you can also substitute soy milk for whatever they use milk in.

I noticed bruinCafe has three different sizes of coffees. Does one swipe get the largest (i.e. 20 oz.) one?

They usually give you medium unless you specify, but yes you can get the large with one swipe. You can also substitute soy milk and/or add espresso shots for “free” (regular Coffee Beans charge extra).

cool

10char

So when do the meal plans start and end? Does week 0 count?

During move-in weekend, cafeteria meals are actually free for both you and your parents/family. (i.e. During move-in weekend, they don’t subtract from your meal plan when you go in the cafeteria, and you can even bring in “guests” for free also.)

The actual meal plan starts with the dinner period on Sept. 20 this year. Starting then, dining counts toward your meal plan.
