Unusual extracurricular

Hey everyone,

So I’m an international student and this summer I have applied for (and been accepted) to be an intern for a member of parliament for around two weeks in the summer vacation. Yes currently reside in Europe and I did not get this internship through money/personal connections or anything.

f What Im wondering is how highly US universities would value this kind of extracurricular activity? Also do American (high school) students do anything similar? (like internships with members of congress, etc.)

It sounds like a wonderful experience and an interesting thing to do and it will be regarded as such – but I don’t think any 2 week program will make a tremendous impact on your college application.

I will note that if you got this internship through a highly selective process then that probably bodes well for your achievements to date.

It’s a cool thing to do in the summer and you should definitely note it in your app. If it was something selective, be sure to make note of that too.

Yes, American high school students do similar things. So it isn’t unique, but it’s definitely better than saying you played video games all summer:-)
