unusual situation...

Hi, I got into Northeastern for Spring 2012 and if you get in for the Spring semester at Northeastern, you are supposed to go abroad first semester. (Going abroad is the only option unless you have a very good reason) A few months before I got admitted to this program, I got diagnosed with a medical condition, in which case I couldn't go abroad. I appealed the decision and the school said that I could take classes at a community college so I will be right where I should be in terms of classes when I start in January. Yes I know i could have gone to a different school but my question is that because I felt that Northeastern would give me the best opportunities for admission to med school, and that I really had no choice other than to go to a CC for the first semester, will the fact that I went to a CC for one semester, which was the ultimatum for attending northeastern hurt me in the med school admissions process down the road, granted I get A's at CC and in the future?

Is there any place to explain a situation like this on the applications?

I am taking Gen Chem I, Gen Bio I, I took stats and the other courses aren't really relevant

I will be taking all my other pre req's at northeastern, including Gen Chem II and Bio II in the spring

No it won’t hinder your app to grad/professional schools and IMO, no need to explain. It’s just one semester and many colleges have a spring admission program. Only the wealthy can afford to go abroad, so taking courses at a juco or local college is common and won’t raise a red flag. Just get A’s in the juco and more A’s at NE.

btw: I would ask a NE Chem prof for their first semester syllabus. That way you can be sure to cover all the topics, even if you have to self-study.

Good luck.
