Unwise decision?

I passed up offers from U of Chicago, UNCCH (OOS), UVa (OOS), U Mich (OOS), Carnegie Mellon, and some other schools for UCLA (OOS). Was that an unwise decision? I feel somewhat guilty for passing up a world-class education at U of Chicago, but I did so because there is no engineering program at U of C. However, I'm not certain if engineering is for me though.

As of today I have not notified my other schools of my decision to attend UCLA, which means I can still bail out if I choose to but I lose my 100 dollar deposit. Any of you guys think my decision to attend UCLA is somewhat absurd or rash? Should I reconsider my other schools and perhaps even U of C?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

You made a decision you’re comfortable with, and I think that’s all that really counts.

I’ll also put out there that “world class education” are meaningless words, as far as I’m concerned, and while the resources-to-student ratio might be higher at Chicago than at some of the other schools on that list, it only matters if they are the right resources for you.

the academics are more comparable than you think.
plus, UCLA has a better sports scene. the only tradeoff is the nicer city, although LA is still quite nice.
I think you made an excellent decision. I passed up UCLA (OOS), though, for WashU and am pretty happy about it.

If you’re interested in engineering, then the first thing you should do is pick a college that actually has an engineering program. Otherwise, I think you’d regret your decision.

UChicago vs. any public? No, not really. You’re pitting small class sizes vs. large lecture halls. It’s based on individual preference, but the academics are different.

Agree completely phuriku… If you are at all serious about engineering, you made the right decision.

i agree that if you are still considering engineering, then you made the right call.

For those of you who said I made the right choice if I am considering engineering, do you think that choosing UCLA over my other schools (beside U of C) was wise?
