I am an African-American male from Chesterfield, Missouri. I know being OOS might lower my chances a bit but this is the only university that I'm applying to and I'd like to know my chances.

I am applying to the Engineering school and hope to enroll in the biomedical engineering program there.

I'm really sorry to break it to you, but you're chances of getting in are slim to none. A 3.2 GPA is far too low, and a 24 is way too low as well. You're gonna need a very strong senior year, and raise your ACT to like 27 to have a legitamite shot.
Things that might help you(you don't have to answer any of these): Are you an economically disadvantaged student? Did you overcome any great difficulties during hs? Are you an outstanding athlete?

Otherwise, I don't see why you're only applying to UMich. You seem like a bright enough kid, and I would certainly apply to easier schools to make sure you get in.

I would say, if you can up your ACT to the 26+ range, you will have a much better chance of gaining admission. UM is known for going crazy with Affirmative Action, so your being an African American male will definately give you a leg up. If you can, try to highlight the fact that you diversify the campus and how being a minority at Michigan is your dream. That is really your only shot.

"UM is known for going crazy with Affirmative Action, so your being an African American male will definately give you a leg up."

lol is this sarcasm???
proposal 2 much??? LOL affirmative action's banned in michigan. best deal ever

anyway.. being OOS, even with a 33 ACT , i dont see u getting in with a 3.2... unless that's from a top high school, and specially you are majoring in engineering, which is more based on stats....

that's actually not true you shouldn't tell him that, I got the highest grades in my honors math class this year and I suck at SAT math, testing just sucks for some people.

Africanprince, you are a solid student, but I think Michigan may be a bit of a reach for you. You lose nothing by applying, but don't expect much.

Don't lose hope though. Nobody here is admissions expert, and you seem to have done alot in hs to merit you being a UM student. Work hard the remainder of summer on improving your ACT. Then get good grades senior year and who knows what can happen.

why are you guys encouraging him? are you guys serious?
check what he said
"this is the only university that I'm applying to and I'd like to know my chances."

please, for gods sake, give this guy a reality check.

Well Most likely you are not going to get in. So I'd suggest not being dumb and definitley applying to some other schools for you own sake. Consider U Wisconsin or Michigan State.

And what do you mean 14 hours of community service? I hope you mean weekly and not overall. If you mean overall I suggest that at least 150+ is needed in order to put it on a college app.
