gpa: 3.15 (bad i know)
sat: 1230

im looking to apply for an english major and i was just wondering what my chances were?

I’m a local but im thinking the chances are slim? :frowning:

Your eligibility index is (3.15 x800)+ (1230)= 3750.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The minimum “Eligibility Index” to be considered for Fall 2018 CSULB freshmen admission:
Graduates of California high schools and other California residents: 3,200 minimum “Eligibility Index” to be considered. (Be aware that this is higher than the minimum for CSU system-wide eligibility.)

Applicants to other majors including undeclared:
Applicants will be admitted based on the calculated Eligibility Index used in establishing minimum CSULB eligibility above. Applicants who are considered ‘local’ based on their high school of graduation or military status will be offered admission if they meet the minimum “Eligibility Index” required of the major. Other applicants will be ranked by the “Eligibility Index” and will be offered admission based on space available in the major or college.

Being local can help you and although CSULB is an impacted campus with all majors impacted, English may have a lower EI threshold than many of the very competitive majors. I do think you have a chance as a local applicant.

wait so basically because im local I just have to have a 3200 EI?

I’m pretty much admitted? since im local

Sorry for posting the incorrect information. The information posted is for CSULB not CSUF. Being local helps you but is not a guarantee.

Fullerton is an impacted campus for all first time freshmen. Impaction means that there are more applications for a campus than can be accommodated. In order to ensure that capacity is not exceeded, more rigorous standards are applied to the freshmen applicant pool. Impacted criteria may include local vs. out of local and major program impaction. This means that all freshmen applicants, whether in our local admissions area or outside of our local admissions area, and depending on major, must anticipate meeting higher levels of competition than the minimum
Eligibility Index required by the non-impacted campuses of the CSU. (The “Eligibility Index” is the result of a formula that combines your achievement in high school college preparatory courses with the results of the SAT I or ACT. Refer to Eligibility Index for details of how this index is calculated). The actual competition cannot be set until after the initial filing period has closed and we are able to assess the size and quality of the freshmen pool.

Areas of Impaction:
The local area- includes all high schools in Orange County, Walnut, Whittier, Chino Valley, Corona, Norco and Alvord School districts.
Local Area
Local admissions area freshmen will need to present a strong high school record, with appropriate courses and grades and good SAT or ACT scores. Depending on major, local freshmen may anticipate meeting higher levels of competition than the minimum Eligibility Index required by the non-impacted campuses of the CSU. Admission preference will be given to local freshmen.

as a local applicant, you’ll probably get in but, it isn’t a slam dunk. Be sure to apply to a couple of less selective schools. Sonoma has a great English department. Others to consider, Sac, SF, Fresno and San Marcos.
good luck.
