Are you a resident or local to Long Beach?

It is an impacted campus.

im not local but i am a california resident if that helps

Yes, that helps.

The Calstates use the eligibility index.

http://www.csulb.edu/admissions/freshmen-eligibility-index

Depending on your total points, then they admit the highest scores first.

Apply because all you can do is try.

oh okay thanks! do you know the minimum eligibility index needed for admission for non stem majors?

Actually, I don’t have that information, but @Gumbymom may have it.

CSULB raised the minimum EI for non-stem majors to 3200 this year including locals, 3750 for OOS, minimum 3300 for STEM majors and to be competitive overall a 3900 SAT EI is the target.

Would mine be competitive enough to get in?

If you convert your ACT score to the New SAT score, then it would be around 1300.

So your eligibility index would be (3.45 x800) + (1300)= 4060. With an EI of 4060 for English, you should be competitive. Much depends upon the stats of each in-coming Freshman class and how you compare within your major.

Make sure you apply to several schools so you have choices in the Spring.

okay than you!

So would an EI of 3900 be competitive for STEM majors at CSULB?

The EI threshold for CSULB has been around 3900+ for the past few years but CSULB has a different EI calculation for STEM majors which emphasizes SAT math.

The STEM Eligibility Index for CSULB ranking in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) majors is calculated as follows:

(College Preparatory Grade Point Average* X 600) + SAT Critical Reading + (2 X SAT Math). *Refer to the College Preparatory Grade Point Average section below for details on how this GPA is calculated.

They have also increased their minimum EI from 2900 to 3200.

  • Graduates of California high schools and other California residents:
3,200 minimum “Eligibility Index” to be considered for non-STEM major and a 3,300 minimum “STEM Eligibility Index” for STEM majors. (Be aware this is higher than the minimum for CSU system-wide eligibility.
