I applied to Penn’s Social Policy & Practice Program (by 2/1) and received a call the following week for an interview .
Can someone who recently had an interview update this post with some questions that came up during the interview?
Also, does getting a call for a interview mean much, or is it just part of the application process?
I’m a current MSW student graduating in May from Penn’s School of Social Policy & Practice (SP2)…I hope my response isn’t too late for you.
I had my MSW interview back in 2014 and here are a few Q’s that I can recall:
Tell me a little bit about your background?
Why are you interested in pursuing a MSW and how can your education/work experience relate to the program?
Are you interested in micro (clinical) or macro (administration) social work?
What do you propose to do with your MSW after graduation?
Why the University of Pennsylvania?
About your second question…Being contacted for an admissions interview at Penn is very favorable & your chances of getting in are Awesome! Make sure you SELL yourself, be knowledgable about the School of Social Policy & Practice, and the University of Pennsylvania in general! Come prepared to ask a few questions once the interview is over & definitely follow up with a thank you note. Speak with passion & conviction. Do these things & you should be fine.
One final note, know your admissions essay thoroughly because the interviewer will ask questions about what you wrote. If you want to…we can chat via email if you want to send me yours? I’m also on campus this week if you want to meet & discuss the interview.
