Hi, I am an upcoming Senior in High School and I am looking towards medical school. I know there are some very knowledgeable people on this forum, and I was just wondering what my options are for the future (in terms of medicine)? I've heard many things about these 6 and 7 year medical school programs, can someone please summarize them for me in terms of what is needed to get into them, and possibly include some links to some lists of the "top" schools?
Any other information about med. school would be greatly appreciated, if there are any informational sites that you have links to, thanks for that too!

Thanks

theres a thread towards the top when you come in to "multiple degree programs" that lists almost all the programs for you

whats needed to get in
simply high gpa, high sat, and obviously extra currics that show you have based your decision to go into medicine on some sort of experience you have had

thats about it
theres also essays and interviews where they then ask about why you want to go into medicine and such
search through this site, you'll find a lot of information that others posted before

To get an interview:

High GPA-As close to a 4.0 as possible

Challenging courses-Take the hardest courses available to you

High SATs/SAT IIs

Extracurricular activities-Try to show leadership or excellence in the activities you pursue

Interest in medicine- You need to show the admissions committees why you want to be a doctor through volunteering, shadowing, research or other activities

Recommendations- Every program requires these and some programs require them from teachers in specific subjects (science subjects and english)

Essays- Usually involve the reasons you want to join the program and the reasons why you want to be a doctor.

Many programs are really competitive because they are offering you a spot in medical school right out of high school and have the luxury of choosing between many highly qualified applicants. If you are weak in any of these seven things, try to compensate in other areas.

Whats considered high sat/ Sat II's? Whats a god benchmark score?

Use Ivy's requirements, add showing strong interest in medicine (med. related EC's). Need higher than Ivy's for some well known programs, less for unknown.
