Upcoming sophomore, help please?

Hi, I'm still kind of new to this...so if I'm posting in the wrong forum, please do forgive me! :)
Anyhow, I will be a HS sophomore this coming September, and I would like to know if my choices are on the right track (for PSAT's, SAT's, as well as AP tests, and also pretty good Universities).

Here is what I will take:

-Honor's Pre-calculus
-Honor's Algebra 2
-Honor's English 10
-Honor's English 11
-Honor's Chemistry
-Honor's Biology
-Honor's U.S. History 1
-Honor's Spanish 3

E.C. (9th + 10th grade)
Cooking clubs-- (possibly joining competitions--I've been
cooking out of school for quite a while now with my mother.)
Art club-- (I think I can manage to get a good position as a vice president
or something-I really love art/I've won some awards on my art pieces :) )
Asian club-- (I already participated in this, this year and the club teacher wanted
me to be one of the main advisors-planning fundraisers, and activities, etc...)
Club 4 --(Basically community service-cook for the homeless, and stuff.)
JV Golf -- (I already joined my HS track team this year, and I will take golf during 10th grade)
Piano-- (I've been playing for 9 years now, with 5 years at a pretty well known music school.--I've played a couple of times at my music school, and I'm currently teaching beginners as a part time job.-It's my hobby :) ).
Summer-- I got a job at a library to do in the next 2 months as my summer job.

I know this is kind of long, but it would SO helpful if someone could tell me if I'm on the right track or not. I will be taking basically ALL AP's in my junior year because I will be done with all the honor's classes in my HS. So I also need some advice on what I need to do to prepare for PSAT's, and those other tests. And is my E.C. decent enough? Or do I need to step it up a lot? I can always change things with my guidance counselor :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH! :)

I think you’re definitely on the right track assuming that you can keep good grades in them all (Asian club? lol XD!)

Just wondering, why are you doubling up in almost every single subject?

Otherwise, I think you’re good. Although I recommend that you self study an AP this year because you might not be ready to take 7 AP classes next year

@Robodl95-Thanks, and yes I’m getting all straight A’s, with an exception of one B. :frowning: HAHA, Asian club, yes
@CompSciGeek- Ha, well if I wanted to get ahead of the sophomores in my school next year, I will need to double up. But, yea. Technically I will only be taking 4 AP’s during Junior year, because the AP classes are extended to be one year long, instead of a half semester. It’s a crazy system. But thanks for your tip :)

AP classes are supposed to be one year long…

No, not really. I agree with ThaMan, most AP classes are supposed to be yearlong.

My only advice is, if you’re taking four AP classes junior year, self study some as well. So don’t be lazy and take the easy AP’s in class; save those for self-studying (APES Human Geo Psych Stats).

@summiemaiko, thaman, bobtheboy

Yeah I know they’re 1 year long, but I don’t how you gusy do it, but we have 7 school periods a day.

Yeah lol thats alot of Honors classes though. You’ll defeinitely get ahead with not only honors, but doing 2 classes.

For sophomores at my school

AP Environmental Science(sometimes)
AP Comp Sci
AP World History(at least 1/2 of class)
sometimes AP Physics(or another Ap Science, Bio is also really popular)

Oh really? I wasn’t aware of that. I thought only a few schools had that year long option. Well that’s good to know.
@loldanielol- lol, I won’t be considering to take easy AP’s. My goal is to score well on the PSAT’s, and SAT’s, as well as the AP tests. I wouldn’t want to slack off.
@CompSciGeek- Many schools are different, because like mine; we only have 4 periods a day  lol, wow. The sophomores at your school are smart. They’re all taking AP’s already? WOW. That’s kind of impressive.

@ SummiMaiko

Thats what you get when 40% of your school is Asian XD
People grab at every opportunity APs present itself. Not even funny.

People compete with each other to take more APs. I have to take 4 next year as a sophomore to keep up at the top of my class and my friend’s taking 5.

But AP Env Sci and Comp Sci are both pretty easy. Seriously. Its just World History and the AP Sciences that screw sophomorres up really bad.

And theres a few freshman at my school who take 1 AP…

I’m an incoming 10th grader too! You should definitely self study for some AP exams. I self studied APUSH, APES and AP Psych this year because my school does not offer AP. It definitely was feasible. Just make sure to start early, especially for history classes. December was early enough for APUSH. I started on April for the latter.

@CompSciGeek- Oh lucky! There are like seriously NO Asian’s at my school. If there is, then they’re just ridiculously smart (I know a Sophomore right now, and he’s currently taking like 4 AP’s). Which means I have to work triple as hard as them to get anywhere near them! :frowning:
Wait, you’re taking 4 AP’s next year as a SOPHOMORE?? 0_o oh my…
@Bigdream18- LOL hehe. I never thought APUSH would be so important, so I didn’t sign up for it yet. I think I’m gong to have to change that. After reading so many posts of how people start APUSH sophomore year, I fear that I may be too behind! Thanks for the tip! ^^

Yeah I’m taking AP Calc AB, AP Physics, AP WorldH, and AP Chinese and I guess I’ll self study Music Theory :)

well at least you’re probably at the top of your class anyway, with no Asians at your school. Which works too. But the scary thing is, at our school, the pressure forces white people to take tons of APs too lol

The thing is, our school has kind of a schedule of when to take which AP classes. Juniors take APUSH and sophomores take AP World.

WOW. you have a choice at your school? Sophomores aren’t allowed to take AP’s unless they’ve finished all the honors requirements at our school (which is why i’m doubling up lol). People at my school have to finish HN u.s history 1, in order to take APUSH (so i guess sophomores can take it too). So basically you have to pass with HN chemistry, physics, and biology to move on to AP science. HA. If it works like that for your school too, then you’re a genius for taking AP physics!
LOL top of my class? well i don’t know about that, because there is this indian girl at my school with a 95.0 avg (4.0 gpa?)-she’s the class valedictorian, and i have like a 3.8 gpa. ehh…lol :)

Being the class valedictorian at our school means taking 15 AP Classes by the end of junior year and getting a 4.0

But yeah i think thats a 4.0

Yeah we have a choice. It’s mostly about whether or not to take AP World History. And then since about 1/4 of the people skip a math and science, they choose whehter to take AP Physics or Regular Physics.

We have to take Bio and Chem and middle school Physics first for AP Sciences.
Our school district is messed up because its like 1 lvl higher in everything.

But I think you’ll be fine, keep up the clubs and activities, it’s good for now.

lol, ha. I hope I do decent. Because everyone on CC seems like an overachiever…which makes me feel so hopeless. XD Your school sounds amazing…I’m slightly jealous of your schools academic system. The kids here think I’m mental for wanting, or even taking the number of AP/honors classes I am considering. sigh But no one understands. haha
thanks for you helpful comments anyways :D

Yeah, everyone on this CC is an overachiever :P. But overachievers are better than underachievers in my opinion.

Don’t worry, you still have a chance if you stand strong among your school. Sometimes, you just can’t help it when your school doesnt allow you to(although you should self study)

Well thats not to say some people at are school wonder why people take that many APs

Its cuz we’re all still freshman, and most freshman dont understand things like that.

How is it even possible to take English 10 and 11 at the same time? That is for two grades and…nevermind. But good luck!

why not take online AP courses on FLVS if your school is a pain? Thats what I’m looking at
