Is geogretown school of business even within my reach or am i setting my hopes a little high. I am also lookin at boston college, UNC, Wake, and WIlliam and mary. Is it realistic to assume i would get into 1 of those schools

wit words like lackluster how could they reject you?

hehe jk,
see I don't know very much about Georgetown, but if your school is really like top 100 and you take a few of the most challenging classes offered (where is AP's btw?) and wit all those EC, you probably rank pretty high in their priority.
However, doesn't mean you don't have work to do. You know... if you have AP's do well on them, still a quarter left, so bring that gpa up, and maybe retake the SAT to aim for a 2300 or something. :P

yea I go to garden city high school in ny its like 90 or something around there. however, in my school they will not allow AP's b4 junior year so i am only taking a total of 6 or 7 this year and next. This year i am taking Stats and US history which i am a lock for atleast a 4 on both. Im just so *ed about my *en SAT it has left me unmotivated to do my schoolwork or care about school anymore

very disappointed and very very desperate

??????????????????

I bet you're luckier than me. I got a lower score (-100) on the new SAT than on the old one.

Of course, that means a retake.

Good luck to me;
Good luck to you!

hey dont sweat it man. even 1990 isnt that bad for georgtown w/ perfect grades, but hey you went into it cold. I improved 180 pts from my PSAT once I studied (& I was disappointed too!).

I took my disappointing score & decided to kick some serious *** for my SAT II's...use it as motivator. =)

But seriously 1990 w/ no prep is pretty good.

You have selected very competitive and selective schools for yourself, especially in light of this year's results by students from better high schools than yours who were shut out by all the schools you mentioned with similar credentials as yours. Also, you have no leadership positions among your ECs: no captains, presidencies, etc. That will hurt you. The only one that looks good for you among the schools listed is Villanova as a safety; the others will all be reaches if you apply RD, especially next year when even more applicants will by vying for those same schools. You might select one of them as EA/ED (such as Emory, BC, CMU or Cornell which depends on which school you're looking at). I suggest that you apply as soon as you can to Michigan since that'll probably be where you wind up, which isn't such a bad thing. The Ross Business School is among the best around. I'm not telling you not to follow your dream of Georgetown, but know that they were brutal this year on some students who were much stronger than you are. All of this is, of course, IMHO.

thanks, as far as leadership goes i know that it is the area in which i am the weakest and most likely i will be the vice president for the italian club next year and 50% that i get a position of NHS. Would that be enough to show that i do have leadership qualities. Also if i were to prepare and raise my SAT to around 2100 would that change anything significantly. I did get a 1350 if u combine just math and verbal and ive heard that writing is the eaiset to improve. would u recommend taking the june SAT or preparing during the summer for the october version would i stil be able to apply ED at every school with the october test.

There's an old saying: give me three "ifs" and I can put a man on Mars. WHEN you get the SAT scores, they you can make those options available to yourself. As for now, deal with the reality of what is and not what isn't. When and if things change, then so can you. As for the leadership, VP of Italian Club, you've got to do far better than that. It's not even a blip on the radar screen of an adcom -- especially when at Georgetown, for example, they're looking at school president, three-sport captain, president of six clubs, research assistant to a Nobel Prize winner, and acolyte at church all in the same person. And he/she is one of 10,000 applicants with the same credentials. Sorry to be so blunt, Dan, but this is what you will be dealing with. You need to be very realistic about what your chances are and from them, make the wise decision. Again, all of this is IMHO.

thanks, i just dont know what i can do its too late to get a chance at any of those "major" positions. is there any sort of thing that i could do during the summer that would help me stand out just a little more. and i didnt mean to sound as if i am expecting to do 150 points better i just wanted to kno that if i prepare a lot and it so happens that i do get around a 2100 would that greatly improve my chances than with a 1990. obviosuly my chances would be better witha 2100 im no fool but does that 100-150 points or so really make that much of an impact when adcoms look at my entire resume

You can also pick up those 100-150 points you need by applying early. Read the book Early Admissions Game which will tell you that. As for leadership help, you might work this summer in a position such as a camp counselor or lifeguard or management intern or something where you have a great deal of responsibility and show initiative. It might lead to a good letter of recommendation or a short answer on the Common App (or perhaps even an essay) -- That might help -- As for taking the SATs in June or October, that's up to you. I'd also suggest that you sign up for the ACT in June and nail it. If (again an "if") you get high scores on that, some/most schools will give it preference over the SAT scores. But you've got to get in the mid-30s (32/33+) to compensate. Good luck --

thanks a lot you have really been very helpful
