Update info for Scholarships

I sent in an update to washu telling them that i was intel finalist, but i don't know if the scholarship committee (danforth and the science one) recieved the update. Do you think i should send another update specifically to the scholarship committees to insure that this update is in my app?

Sure...but isn't it too late for that now? They're starting notification like...now...

don't know whether it's too late or not, but I can tell you these two things:
---last year when my son (who is at Wash U now) was applying to 10 schools, Wash U was the only school I could call and say "do you have this" and they would be able to within 10 seconds pull his file and say yes or no. Everywhere else was like "you have no idea how much mail we get, we're sorting as fast as we can, so sorry but I can't really tell you."
---if you want to know what the admissions office has and doesn't have, call them, and ask specifically do you need to do anything extra so scholarship committee sees the info about Intel

Congrats by the way!

If you call them, you need to do it asap. They're already making decisions about the finalists.

thanks so much

Haha, vanilea, while youre at it, can you ask them when they're gonna tell us if we're finalists???

are the interviews for the finalists sponsored by WUSTL

I pretty sure the school pays for your transportation, food and provides on campus housing during the interview days.

oh okay. thanks for the info

When my son went up a few years back for the engineering scholarship weekend they paid for the plane ticket and put all the kids in a hotel the first night. The next night (maybe 2, I can't remember), they stayed with a host student in a dorm. Everything was paid for.

WashU picks up the expenses for Scholars Interview Weekend. They will arrange for airline tickets, transfer you back and forth to the airport, give you a meal card to use, usually arrange for you to stay in a dorm with an upperclass person in the same Scholars Program. The weekend consists of a series of meetings, social events and interviews. A word to the wise - consider the entire weekend and all of the events to be one continuous interview. Invitations should be coming out shortly and recipients are notified shortly after the weekend.

For which of the scholarships do you get to go to finalist weekend? Is it only the full or half tuition ones, or are Nemerov, Friends of Music, etc. a ticket to finalist weekend as well?

There are two Scholarship weekends as follows - March 22-25 and March 29-April 1. To the best of my knowledge the schedule is as follows:

From the WashU website:
On-Campus Interviews for Finalists
A faculty committee will conduct personal interviews with the finalists for the Compton, Mylonas, Moog, and Lien scholarships. To remain eligible for the scholarships, finalists will need to come to Washington University March 29 - April 1, 2007 for the interview and related activities. The University will pay all expenses for the finalists during these four days

Conway/Proetz Scholarships—Art; Fitzgibbon Scholarship; Dean’s Scholarship Program in Business; Ervin, Danforth, Rodriguez
Finalists, chosen by the Scholarship Committee, will be invited to Washington University for personal interviews with the faculty committee. To remain eligible for the scholarships, finalists will need to come to Washington University March 22 - 25, 2007 for the interview and related activities. Washington University will pay all expenses for this trip to St. Louis.

Thanks ST2

I remember coming across that information, but its nice to have it all on one page.

I think the nemerov interviews are the same weekend as the honorary scholars ones.

melanieeek,

Are you sure that there are interviews for the nemerov? It seems that it is almost more of a suplemental program (like the Entrepreneurial Scholars Program) since the highest award is $3,000 renewable. There is no mention of an interview weekend on the WashU site, as follows:

Howard Nemerov Writing Scholarships—Arts & Sciences

Up to six $3,000 scholarships
Renewable annually
Arts & Sciences applicants who apply for the Howard Nemerov Writing Scholarships may also apply for the full-tuition Compton, Mylonas, Moog, or Lien Scholarships, as well as for the Entrepreneurial Scholars Program, Ervin Scholars Program, Friends of Music Scholars Program, or Rodriguez Scholars Program.

Notification for Finalists
Finalists will be notified by mid-March

Well, for what it counts, I'm positive they held Nemerov interviews last year.

has anybody received any notice for scholarships yet? it's supposed to be around this time.....

It is! I'm so nervous...I get news from Wellesley, the Robertson scholarship, and the Wash U scholarship this week!

There are interviews for the Nemerov. I don't think there's a specific weekend though.
