I'm here for an update. I just got home from my orientation at Case!!!!

Sunday- met my group. We all got along pretty well. It was the first time I had seen the case dorms. I'm in a single for the fall (don't really want to be, but nothing I can do about it). We had a blast at this skit talking about real-life situations (heavy drinking, sexual assaults, and lack of respect for diversity).

Monday- it poured and poured and poured and poured in Cleveland as I'm sure Joev can attest to. I didn't bring a coat so I had to use a towel. Of course, this was the day we had to do the tour of Case (seriously I think I walked around case at least ten times by the time orientation was over). It wasn't fun- we were wet and it was raining. Dinner was good, but we had some speakers later who were boring and who were supposed to explain the public transportation system...but they didnt.

Tuesday- Well my dad was an hour and a half late....not surprising! We scheduled for classes (I'm taking calc 1, principles of chemistry, principles of microeconomics, intermdediate spanish 1, and a seminar).

Overall impression- I can't wait to start! I'm already falling in love with the beuatiful city of Cleveland, and I already made some friends. I'm worried about the peer pressure, but I suppose that's something everyone goes through. Very excited- it's a new adventure. The next chapter. :)

celebrian - a single can be the best of both worlds. You've already started making friends, so you don't have to worry about being isolated. Just prop your door open whenever you don't need privacy (your large bottle of Tide detergent works well for this ;) ) and you should be right in the mix of things at the dorm.

About the peer pressure- You seem to know exactly what you want, so just remember to do what is right for yourself, and you will find your circle of friends. Don't let others pressure you into making decisions that make you feel uncomfortable.

I read the list of classes that you will be taking. How was registration? Did you get the classes that you were looking for? My son just registered too. He is very satisfied with his classes.

Celebrian, want to hear something really really really sad? I was on Case campus all Monday working but my lab has no windows so I didn't know it rained!
embarassed
Well I guess that explains why my bike was wet...

PS- I will advise you to stick both an umbrella and a light sweater into your backpack so they're always available. You already know the reason for the former and the latter is needed for the rooms where they blast the A/C into October!

celebrian, so nice to follow your college search and see you will begin at a great university in a few weeks..best of luck. My advice is always to not get too enamored with the most talkative and outgoing people you meet in orientation (OK, I was a very talkative freshman..I am not prejudiced about them but made friends with some terrific introverts too)..keep an eye out and be careful not to overlook the more private kids. Sometimes your best friends later will be the ones who are not running with the most lively group the first semester..everyone regroups a couple times before sophomore and junior year so stay Open.
Single room will have its blessings, too.
Re umbrellas..yeah they can be geeky but I fell in love with and later married the guy who always had one and held it over my head when walking loaded down with books in between classes.
have a wonderful first semester!

I know it may seem scary with the whole peer pressure thing but people tend to respect your decisions if you are firm in your stance but do not impose judgement on their own actions. Do what is right for you; just dont preach to others (unless they are causing harm to themselves obviously). That is the best advice I can give :)

I am actually in Spain right now, so I have no clue how the weather is back home. I just worked a 12 hour shift and watched a movie and read three magazines. Europe is pretty sweet.

Thanks for the update. The single will be fine since you are already meeting people. Son is leaving for Cleveland today-will toss another umbrella in the car.
