Updated Chance Me :)

Given the selective nature of these schools, I’m aware that no one can be definitive with these, but I’d appreciate any thoughts or advice. I’m looking to apply to schools like Cornell (that’s my top), Yale, Brown, U Chicago, UCLA, and the like.

SAT: 1500 without studying (720 RW, 780 M) I plan on retaking with prep to boost the score
ACT: 33 (34 E, 34 S, 33 M, 32 R) retaking in two weeks but haven’t prepared yet :’)
Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Rank: 1
AP classes: Euro - 3, US, Bio, Eng taking this May.
Course load: the literal most AP classes my school has to offer, plus concurrent enrollment taking the maximum amount of college units I can as a highschooler with a local college (courses such as anatomy, linear algebra, psych)

Intended Major: Double between Neuroscience and Music

Extra Curriculars:

  • Yearbook Staff (Editor In Chief) 3 yrs
  • Student Government (Commissioner of Community Relations) 2 yrs [note: this isn't like the normal student council, we put on giant rallies and I've put in over 100 hours outside of class working on decorations that are painted and bigger than me. it's not just a class for fun, but requires dedication and hard work]
  • Church Youth Band (Worship Leader) 4 yrs (every week) - piano, drums, vocal
  • International Youth Neuroscience Association, 1 yr, Video Production Team (promotional videos), MYELIN Initiative (developing a high school curriculum for neuroscience to be taught, as it is a less prevalent class)
  • Church Sunday Morning Worship Team, 4 yrs [every single week :')] Drums, Piano, Sound Tech, Vocal, Worship Leader
  • H Collective Photographer - 2 yrs, online branding company with platform to connect artists (you have to apply)
  • Classical Piano, 3 yrs
  • 2 jobs (not at once) but not gonna get into detail NHS, CSF

Hooks: first generation, low income (shows I can succeed regardless of circumstance)

Note: I have two teacher I’m super close to, and I know they’ll write some stellar recommendations. Also, I feel like my extracurriculars are concentrated in the areas of Neuroscience and the Arts, which are my desired fields.

Also if anyone knows any good neuroscience programs feel free to share :). Or if anyone has tips for SAT reading cause I can’t seem to get a higher score on it. Thanks!

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are good. You should focus on taking two SAT subject tests and getting 700s+ on both. Write great essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

Outstanding resume.
Very impressive. I would say you have a great chance at UCLA and UChicago.
Get that SAT up to around 1540 and you could be looking at some Ivy acceptances.

@doorrealthe Thanks for the comment! I just registered for the May SAT II subject tests for US history, bio, and math 2.

@EmpireFrontier Thanks for the advice! I’m going to study during May after AP exams and take the June SAT. I’m hoping to improve (as the last one was the first SAT I’ve taken). Do you have any advice on improving reading score?

@jswaggy to be honest reading is tough to give advice on due to the fact that sometimes there are more than one “correct” answer. I have always just had a knack for understanding and comprehending the passages, and doing awful on math. (I got a 780 in reading and a 650 on math lol)

Amazing resume with outstanding ECs. Retake the SAT exams to strengthen your applicantion. I think you’re extremely competitive, even hough these schools are reaches for everyone.
