Updated chance thread, URM for HYPS (Gotta love those acronyms)

Rising senior
Gender/Ethnicity: Male/Hispanic
GPA: 4.0 UW/4.6 W
Rank: 11/about 600. I made a thread about this a while back; I got terrible grades in classes taken in 8th grade and since then have gotten straight A's.
School: Poor, crappy public

PSAT: 236
SAT I: 800 Writing, 800 Reading, 740 Math
SAT II: 800 Math II, 800 Literature, 800 US History
APs: Environmental Science and US History pending (Hoping for 5s!). Will take 5 APs next year as well.

ECs:
Debate 11-12: Started off horribly, got a lot better, and eventually won my league in public forum debate. Varsity public forum captain in 12th grade, also probable officer.
Academic Decathlon 11-12: Slacked off before scrimmage and ended up on 2nd team. Got the second-highest score on either team, barely losing to a senior two years ahead of me in math, taking economics, and with musical background. This year, I'm working really hard and will probably score significantly higher. Also probably president.
MUN 11-12: Officer 12
Vietnamese Culture Club 11-12: Vice President 12
Science Fiction Club 9-12: Probably VP/Pres 12
Dungeons and Dragons Club 12: Co-founder, co-president.

Awards:
Student of the month, several academic achievement awards, probable National Merit Finalist, Hispanic Recognition Award for PSAT.

Intangibles:
Really good essay writer, and my teachers love me. My English teacher this year said I was probably the best writer/student he's had in almost 40 years of teaching. I admit that roughly 95% of my app starts junior year. This is because I was extremely afraid of taking risks early in my high school career, and it was a huge step for me to join all of those things. I will probably address this in an essay. My classes are not the most difficult offered at my school because I was forced to repeat Algebra I in 8th grade after receiving a B- in 7th grade (really hard year for me). Thus, I'm a year "behind" in math (actually on the normal, not accelerated, path), but I'm skipping Calculus AB and going straight to BC next year, so I'll be caught up.

Please chance me for:
Yale (top choice, SCEA)
Princeton
Harvard
Stanford
Columbia
Brown
Dartmouth
Amherst
Williams
Duke
UChicago
UCLA & UCB (in-state)
USC (2-generation legacy, grandfather was a professor there for 50 years)

Thanks in advance!

I don't think colleges look at 7th and 8th grade...this should be distinguished on your transcript because it will obviously help you alot if you did poorly then

Your chance is about as good as it is going to get. I would say you should get into one of the 4 ( you can't really count on any of those specific schools). Btw, your stats are sick.

Also the high (not for CC) is taking AB in 12th grade. By taking the BC you are putting yourself over the mean (though prob. average for HYPS)

only thing lacking is EC's, which will be compensated for by your URM status, id say you stand as good a shot as anyone

Anyone else? (Shameless bump)

very strong. u seem to be a master of SAT's....help a fellow hispanic out LOL

im not very good at them

but u got great chances man..best of luck

in at most
admissions are a crapshoot, but you pretty much have the max chances anywhere

Dungeons and Dragons Club 12: Co-founder, co-president.

That honestly will not help your application. It would probably actually hurt it. But if its something you're actually interested in go ahead.

Although your EC's aren't as good as most HYPS applicants on CC, a Hispanic with your kind of grades and SATs will be in at most of the places you apply.

llpitch:
Yeah, I know it won't help my application. To be honest, I haven't done anything in high school with the intention of helping my application. I've just pursued my interests and sought new knowledge.
