*Updated*...trying to finalize my College List

All right, it's getting to the time when College Apps go in, and I'm just looking to round out my college list -- I think you'll find it's a bit different than the previous one. Read on...

School doesn't rank, but I'm pretty sure I'm in the top 10%...hopefully ;)
Recommendations: Both my Math and History teachers have asked me to come to them, so I'm probably giving them the Rec. stuff this Monday.

Essay: Editing, re-editing, re-editing...yeah. Should be okay, i guess.

Awards and Honors

Ranked in the top 50 in the Nation (my age group) in Chess.

Won a couple of state awards, couple of national awards, etc.

National 'A' Level ranking in the US Chess Federation.

99th Percentile PSAT: For sure commended, I didn't get Semi-Finalist (ouch haha) since my score wasn't high enough (215).

"My first choice major(s) would be something like Biomedical Engineering or Bioengineering."

Some potential match/safeties in biomedical engineering / bioengineering:

U. of Rochester
Case Western
CMU
Boston U.

id say Accept at all

your gpa is low, but everything else more than makes up for it

haha thanks for the optimism mayiplzgovertigo, but I highly doubt I'll be accepted to all of them ;)

@ Indian Basketball, I'm rated like 1830~ish
@ BlueJay79, I was actually considering CMU, I may add that to my list, providing the supplement is not intense.

Can I get any percentages, please?

hey .:Indian:. (do u remember me?)! nice SAT, alrite GPA, excellent EC's...looks like it's up to the essay! GOOD LUCK

Your GPA is a killer for most of your top choices in spite of your impressive accomplishments. In fact, it also depends on how much you contributed to the research you did. Any words us forum people can't recognize instantly sounds cool and intelligent, but that may not always be the case.

Caltech (Early Action) - Flat out rejection
MIT (Early Action) - Reject
UCLA - In
Cal (Berkeley) - In
UC San Diego - In
UC Irvine (safety, i think) - In
Stanford - Very High Reach (I give you 15-20% chances)
Duke - Big Reach (30-45%)
Johns Hopkins University - High Reach biomed (20-30%), 60% regular
Columbia - Reach (40-60%) You have a better chance here b/c Fu School of Engineering sucks.
Dartmouth - I have no idea, probably in.
The Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University (I sent in all my stuff for Arizona State University, proper. The Honors College app is coming out this Friday...) - In

thanks a lot for that reality check prospectiveMD; although it was not very pleasant to hear (haha), it is probably the most accurate prediction/chance right now.

However, I did actually do a fair bit of work on my papers, and it is an idea that has possibilities of being implemented in the future. That being said, on the grand cosmic hierarchy of Papers, its usefulness pretty much nil ;)

However, I have heard that Caltech and MIT are a bit more forgiving when regarded with pretty okay EC's & Research...I'm just hoping it can offset my GPA.

I'd welcome any other comments.

Probably in at Duke, Columbia and Darmouth

i think for my essays I'll basically talk about how I "grew" through Chess; and about a certain teacher that really affected me.

I would love to get into Duke, Columbia, or Dartmouth haha, but I really need to focus on my essay ;)

yeah...bump?

Caltech (Early Action)-Match
MIT (Early Action)-Match
UCLA-Match
Cal (Berkeley)-Match (are you a stoner?) :)
UC San Diego-Safety
UC Irvine (safety, i think)-Safety

Duke-Match
Johns Hopkins University-Match

The Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University (I sent in all my stuff for Arizona State University, proper. The Honors College app is coming out this Friday...)-Safety

Allright, I'm seeing a HUGE disparity between what prospectiveMD has said (although he has some very good arguments) and what others (Rutgers, tetrisfan, etc) have said...what are my REAL chances haha?
