So I’m going to be a NM SemiFinalist, and I’m planning to apply for Finalist. If I’m able to get Finalist status, this would be a nice addition to have on my college applications. However, I’ll be notified in February and this is after many application deadlines, but will I still be able to send an email or update to colleges notifying them of my Finalist status?
@sdough You don’t need to update them, as schools will assume this is the case due to most students becoming a Finalist (unless you have multiple Fs etc, in which case there’s no guarantee.) If you still want to, most schools will have a section on their applicant portal to submit updates (by filling out a form, submitting a word doc etc.) or you can find your assigned admissions officer on the school’s admissions website and email them.
Hope that helps! Good luck with admissions!
My D20 updated all of her outstanding applications with her finalist status last year. It was a fairly simple process. She also had several other updates that she made at the same time (ie, voted team captain, final class standing). If you think you might have some other updates to make around the same time, you might want to do it all at once so that you aren’t doubling or tripling your efforts.
@sdough - I agree with @PikachuRocks15 . The assumption will be that you make Finalist. It will really only matter to a school that offers a NMSC scholarship. Most of them only offer the big $$$ for Finalists. Unfortunately, the NMF designation doesn’t mean a lot for admissions. The rest of your record and essays will be the deciding factor.
Also schools that DO offer NM scholarships likely receive lists from NM with students who have become Finalists, as UCF sent me their NMF award letter without me having notified them that I had become a NMF from a NMSF.
Hope that helps!
