UPenn Admission Chances with 3.73 GPA

I am a 1st year UC Berkeley student interested in applying for transfer to UPenn, Brown, and Columbia. This semester, I didn’t do as well as I should have and received a 3.73 GPA. I was on track to receive a 3.8-3.9 GPA but messed up on one of my finals, bringing my gpa down . I got a B+ in a not-so difficult math course . My high school gpa was around the same as my 1st semester college gpa. However, I have a very high SAT score (2350) and several leadership positions and pretty decent extracurriculars. Taking into account the information I gave you, including that UC Berkeley is known for difficult classes and that I’ve take many units, how much lower do you think my chances are with a gpa of 3.73 than a gpa of let’s say 3.8 or 3.9? Please help me out. I’ve been very worried

According to your SAT score, you should be easily accepted. Your GPA is excellent as well. As you said, Berkley is a tough institution, and a 3.73 is excellent! I’d say you’re a good match.

Why are you guys so optimistic?

UC B is a tough place to get in to, however, your SAT is strong and your leadership positions should be able to give you a pretty good chance. I would say high match.

I am applying for transfer at UC Berkeley

A 3.73 is a fine GPA, it’s in the high A- to A range at a rigorous institution. If you don’t mind me asking, why are you transferring?

It seems like the people responding aren’t reading the thread properly lol.

With that being said, transferring in will not be an easy feat, however, really push and bring your GPA up for this semester and maybe Fall 2015. Berkeley is no cake walk. You should be happy with what you’ve accomplished so far. I am however curious as well to know why you are trying to transfer. Penn accepts 200 of approx. 2000 applicants.

Penn is closer to home. It is private college. It has more opportunities. Courses are better. Better atmosphere.

Transferring is quite difficult at all these institutions as their graduation rates are so high, eliminating their need for any transfer students. The competition is also quite fierce and your GPA would not look good. However, if you bring it up, they might consider you due to your grades and test scores as well as coming from Berkeley. Best of luck.
