UPenn, BrownU, UChicago: Which one is the best for premed??

How has your experience at any of these schools been/ what would you pick?

If you want to go pre-med then think about:

  1. The cheapest reasonable college so you/your parents can use the money for med school
  2. The college needs to prepare you for MCATs but still allow you to get a good GPA
  3. Access to volunteering opportunities (e.g., near a hospital)
  4. Success in graduates getting into med school
  5. Options if you don’t go to med school

thank you! I’ve been accepted to all three, but am torn between the options. I like all of them, but am concerned about grade deflation. @bopper

Beyond obvious considerations like price differences…

Brown’s open curriculum means that, other than requirements for pre-med and your major, you can cherry-pick electives that you will find easiest to earn A grades in, rather than have to take extensive general education requirements in subjects that may be difficult for you (like at Chicago). Since medical school admission’s first cut is GPA and MCAT, grubbing a high GPA is extremely important as a pre-med.

@ucbalumnus I am leaning towards Brown, but fell in love with Penn. I am concerned about the weather in Chicago to be honest.

@medgirl01 I love Brown. i love the campus but most of all I like the streets around it. All the fun little shops and restaurants.

@gearmom when I visited it was lovely! Do you think living in a smaller city relative to that of Philadelphia or Chicago would prove harder to receive research and hospital connections?

@medgirl01 There are no shortages of hospitals in Providence. I’m sure they snap up the Brown grads. You will be the big fish in a small pond. But ask if you are concerned.

@gearmom thank you for the advice!
