UPENN Class of 2017 RD

Ahhhh I got one too! at exactly 5 pm CST. So unexpected…but congrats to everyone else, because clearly a lot of CC people got one!

Didn’t get one but didn’t expect to get one or even get in for that matter :(

Anyway, I’ve mentally prepared myself for rejection on the 28th so it’s all good.

Prepared for rejection as well. Idk why I even tried.

Congratulations to everyone else.

Oh oh oh I got one too! So surprised…

Mine came at 6PM EST as well

Were any of the people who got likelies dual degree applicants?

Does anyone know when the admitted student day will be?

Congratulations to everyone who got a likely. For everyone else, I am sure you will be fine on 3/28. Some of you have already got into terrific schools. Good luck!

For accepted ED applicants, the Penn Preview Day is April 5th. For accepted RD applicants, Penn Preview Days are April 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 23rd (you choose one):

I didn’t get a likely letter, which is quite unsurprising considering my relatively mediocre 3.8 unweighted GPA.

I got my financial aid package from UMich today, and had to immediately decline their offer of admission, and I guess it gave me something of a wake up call: even if I do get into great schools like Penn, I won’t be able to afford it. The assets FAFSA measures aren’t liquid, and I don’t want my parents to sell their house, cars, etc. It’s outrageous. I was thrilled to get into Georgetown, and I won’t be able to afford that either.

Our college system is kind of messed up, where prestige seems more important than the actual value of the education in many cases, and ridiculously many recent grads are in mountains of debt.

The admissions and financial aid processes have made me ridiculously bitter, but I think it’s time to start letting go and accepting that this is out of my hands. I have full tuition scholarships from Tulane and Fordham, which are in two of the best cities in the world.

So, in summary, I offer an extended middle finger to the American college/university system. Go Green Wave/Rams!

Did anyone else get invited to Penn’s Equity and Excellence Scholars preview? I’m wondering if likelied students are invited.

Yes. DD was invited. It sounds like a great event!

Yes I’m invited!! So excited! How is this different from the Penn Preview days? And how many people were invited (if anyone knows)?

I got invited to the Equity and Excellence Scholars Day…but I’m white? It sounds like a minority day.

got a likely and E&E Scholars Day invitation! so excited! who else got one?

I completely agree with you, it sucks being in that middle class range where you have enough to not receive aid but less than enough to be able to pay in full without resorting to eating ramen for all your meals. I was planning on going to Michigan too if I didn’t get into any of my RD schools but after seeing today that all they were giving me was a $3,500 loan, that’s no longer any option. This month just got a lot more stressful :(

Yep, my mom and I had a good laugh when we saw that they had only offered a $5,550 loan for the year with the approximately $40,000 out-of-state tuition. These days, when a selective college “admits” you, it still doesn’t necessarily mean you can attend! :(

I also got a likely and was invited today to the equity scholars thing! although I’m too far away to realistically be able to attend, it sounds fun!

got a likely letter!! words can’t express how excited I am

^ just now? I thought they were all sent Thursday.

DP reporter here, anyone receive an interview with a Penn alumni willing to answer a few questions for me? I’m working on an article about the new alumni interview program.
