Also, has anybody ever heard of a college not liking a particular school? Upon looking at naviance, penn has only accepted 2/47 early decision applicants from my school in the past six or so years.
Omg guys calm down lol decisions will come out when they come out, nothing you can do now
Does penn give preference to sibling
Hey Guys,
Good luck to everyone who has applied! Fingers crossed for us all
Just curious, does anyone play any instruments?
what did everyone like about penn? i applied ED and i’m just curious to know what you all thought of the school and why you chose to apply ED to it instead of others? favorite and least favorite aspects of the school, if any?
i guess i’ll go first?
best parts:
-it’s the perfect distance from my home state, MA (about a 5 hours drive)
-not in the middle of a city like NYU but still in an urban location
-great business school (applying to Wharton)
-full of intellectual students and teachers
-ability to take classes in both the College of Arts and Sciences AND Wharton Business school
-awesome travel abroad programs
-nice size
-known as the “social ivy”
-the quad
-locust walk
not so favorite parts:
-not a D3 school, meaning i can’t run varsity
-heard that Wharton is pretty cut-throat and competitive, and i’d love to go to a school where students are more collaborative (but hey, i guess in the business school not everyone is all that friendly)
-not a lot of AP credit given
ALSO, anyone know of any fun traditions unique to penn? i’d love to know what they are!
I know of hey day and the one where they scream out loud on the quad before the Econ midterm!
@anika839
my favorite parts about Penn:
- far away from home (I live in MN and it’s like a 17-hour drive lol sorry mom)
- urban location
- amazing nursing school and close proximity to CHOP and HUP
- submatriculation!!
- study abroad opportunities for nursing which is pretty much unheard of
- weird traditions (toast throwing)
- “one university” mindset
- Wharton boys (kidding please don’t kill me)
- spring fling
- Philly in general
- Penn has a badminton club and like 10 a cappella groups <3
I just really love the opportunities that Penn provides. I also experienced the really stereotypical feeling that people say they get when they visit their dream school. The “when you know you know” sort of thing.
least favorite parts:
- honestly, I can’t really think of anything. Penn checks all of my boxes. I guess the competitiveness of the Ivy League, but my high school is pretty damn competitive lol.
@pephen104 I play the violin
been creeping around this thread for a while, applied ED and wanted to say hi @pephen104 I play the piano!
what are you guys planning to do to mentally prepare in the hours before you open your decision??
@pephen104 @insula I play the piano also I also play the clarinet and saxophone @sunrae I talked about the study abroad for nursing in my interview and app, I wanted to study abroad SO bad in HS, and with nursing you can’t really do study abroad so its an amazing opportunity, unfortunately my interviewer said she didn’t really regret not doing nursing study abroad so i was like hmmm… It also wasn’t my interviewer’s top school.
Also, @sunrae I have a feeling you will for sure get in, you have geographical advantage plus you just seem like the right fit for nursing (I’m applying nursing too).
@insula I am gonna get into my most comfy clothes, brew a cup of chai tea, and quickly open my admissions decision and throw myself onto the floor and wait until I hear the fight song (or not)
No one from my school has EVER gotten accepted into Penn, so that’s a great feeling.
Cute Wharton boys … literally same haha
Do you think the decisions are almost done ?
@Klayyy To be honest, probably, they are most likely finishing up final decisions, etc. But who actually knows
Hoping to be one of those cute wharton boys! I applied to M&T with Wharton as a backup.
@plshelpmicollege I’m a fan of Coldplay and Ed Sheeran, but also love rappers like Eminem, Chance and Kendrick.
Last year, someone stated on December 9 Penn emailed and said
"We will post admissions decisions for Early Decision applicants on Friday, December 11, 2015. Your decision can be viewed by visiting your Penn Applicant Portal.
The exact time of the release will be available on the Penn Admissions website on Thursday, December 10 at 9:30 a.m. ET.
We have enjoyed getting to know you through this process."
So maybe we will know later rather than sooner considering they only found out a couple days before.
So I was reading this blog post… although this isn’t a Penn admission counselor, this really made me feel better with whatever the outcome is. Hope whoever reads this gets some peace of mind too. http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/applying_sideways
@sajeunesse wait does the fight song play if you’re accepted when you open the portal or something lol
@m0ledog last year it did at least
Surprised I haven’t heard anyone say Hoodie Allen…
