IM ASIAN TOO #AsianPersuasion
And I get how we all feel about it being an anti hook and how all the odds may be stacked against us and not going to lie I was really upset for a long time about it, but at the end of the day it’s really important to remember that your race is just one component of who you are and you should never look at it as a reason for failure or ever hate yourself for it bc TBH being Asian is pretty cool (Asian don’t raisin)
If a college rejects you it could be because you were Asian yes, but other chances are that you weren’t a good fit or maybe it was your essay etc. etc.
We gotta power through y’all, because it’s just so degrading to tear yourself down or your admission chances (literally me everyday) because of your ethnicity
Heck I’m Korean too but at this point just embrace it and go with whatever happens
Was woken up this morning and told to pack my bags to prepare to evacuate my house because of a massive, uncontained fire less than a mile away (I live in Los Angeles). At least now I have something else to worry about :’)
@yoharamona I totally get what you mean and I really love your positive outlook, but it’s just so hard being a minority in school and facing discrimination in real life, while still being considered an overrepresented population in the college admissions process. I’ve learned to love and embrace my ethnicity, and I definitely in favor of affirmative action programs, but this process is so frustrating especially because schools like Penn count asian students into their “people of color” demographics (so they are able to maintain their image of diversity) but don’t reflect a recognition of our struggles in the acceptance ratio .
I didn’t. And I’m hoping they were serious when they said it wouldn’t hurt. My high school is brand new and >80% URM. (It’s an early college high school for a HBCU) Only one other person in my class has taken subject tests, and they didn’t apply to Penn…so hopefully they’ll see my fee waiver, check my zip code and school report and conclude that me taking subject tests would’ve been far outside the norm. GPA is a 4.0 unweighted & I’ll have 60 college credits (that won’t transfer) so hopefully that’ll be enough. Can’ hardly wait to just get this waiting over with!
@daththiccboi - try to remember the overwhelming majority of students admitted will turn out to be white - just like you. Your color won’t hurt your chances. If anything, it will help!
im not a us citizen, i dont have any legacy, i am asian, and i am born and raised in south korea, where the vast majority has amazing stats.
im just hoping for the best.
