hey guys! So Stanford has been my dream school for awhile but up until a series of unexpected events, I have found myself applying ED to Penn instead REA to Stanford. With that being said, my stats are ACT- 34 C, SAT - 1500 (R-700, Math-800), Chem II- 740, Math II- November test date. Although much of my time is spent caring for my siblings, I have some strong ecs, Internship at UPenn Lab as Research Assistant (plan to touch on this in supplement), Harvey Mudd WISTEM (20/250 get in), Secretary PJAS (Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science), have one 1st place titles in Behavioral category since freshman year at regional and state meets, leadership in several other clubs. Super nervous and excited, good luck to you all!
I had never been so much tensed as I feel now. Deadline is here
Good luck to everyone applying to Penn, I also just submitted my application last week! I just received my scores for my Subject Tests today and got a 790 Math II and 690 Chem. Should I just not turn in the chem score (got 5 on ap chem last year)?
@ravensfan204 I got similar scores (my math 2 was a little lower) Im in between sending them or not… the rest of my application is pretty strong so I am not sure whether or not to just send them since having two is “recommended”
is 720 math 2 and 740 chem low for Penn?
I have very similar scores math 2 800 but history 670 I’m not sending the history just math. I don’t think 2 sat subject tests matter much
Does applying ED really help your chances of getting in? I know the acceptance rate is significantly higher for ED, but I’m assuming that’s mainly because there are fewer applicants and a lot of them are legacy, right?
@power33 even after excluding legacy and athletes there is an advantage. Obviously smaller than it appears to be if you simply comparE ed and RD acceptance rates. The RD acceptance rate is like ~6%. The ED rate for non-legacies/athletes etc is definitely quite higher (I would guess around 12%-15% or so).
@Penn95 @power33 You make sense but you’re ignoring the fact that most people who ED know they have a decent to high chance of getting in. For RD people apply just for the heck of it so that distorts the figures. My point is the average applicant in ED is stronger than RD but that being said the RD application pool overall is more competitive. So you’re basically avoiding “some” competition and also giving them a strong signal that you want to go there. In my opinion that would matter if you and a similar RD candidate would be picked from the waitlist.
How many people do you think apply to Wharton for Business Economics and Environemental Management. Do you think it’s easier to get into for these concentrations than Finance ?
For the Supplementary materials, do creative writing pieces fall under the umbrella of Fine Arts?
@vakilmohit we cannot be sure that the ED pool is actually stronger than RD. Or even if it is it is probably marginally so and the higher number of people applying during RD probably offsets that difference anyway. Remember that during RD you also have many very qualified people applying who did not make it SCEA to HYPSM.
@Penn95 I agree with the point about HYPSM which is why I said overall more competitive. But in my opinion the “median” applicant in RD is less competitive. That’s just my opinion.
@hamiltondebater You should actually submit those to KWH, it’ll help you significantly
Any Huntsman applicants here?
Here! I’m applying to the Huntsman program.
Any DMD(digital media design) applicants here?
That’s what I figured as well! I looked through the dates from previous years and guess it will be 8th.
Has anyone’s LinkedIn showed that a private account checked out their profile. Could it be Adcoms? I mean who-else would hide their info from the person they’re checking out other than someone hoping to recruit?
@Controlla lol it could just be someone who was looking up suggested profiles and you were one of them. Doesn’t mean anything… but yes it could be adcoms but I wouldn’t count on it
