UPenn Nursing 2020

@lovemjrnas, so how long was your call with Marianne? And did she say she would be happy to meet you in person during the call itself, or in a follow-up email? Either way, if she suggested that she would like to meet you I certainly would think it is a good sign.

@northstarfx nah we never talked through phone as I’m international  She suggested that if I’m admitted, I should Quaker’s Day, and that she truly wants to get to know me personally  she is such a nice woman, I really hope to get in and meet her one day!!! Was your call anything similar? And do you think every nursing/nhcm applicant got similar calls? I just don’t want to get my hopes up and get rejected in the end

The phone call with Marianne lasted about 15-20 minutes. It was more her sharing information about the Penn Nursing program and why one should choose Penn over others. She also mentioned Quaker Days and suggested attending if admitted. It is so hard to know how many Nursing applicants she calls, but I heard over 1,000 applied and it sounds unrealistic that she would reach out to all (or a majority) of them. I wish I knew what the admit rate was of those who heard from her directly! Does anyone know?

well I guess I’m screwed HAHA I didn’t get a call or email. I did get a general UPENN interview that is open to all applicants with alumni around but I don’t think that counts. I feel hopeless. I guess I have to hope for the best for Emory, which I also put nursing :-S

@northstarfx I totally agree that she probably won’t be able to contact that many applicants. But I hesitate to say that the call is an indication of whether one gets in or not - because the invitation to talk I got was directed to NHCM applicants rather than nursing students. I thought it was a special thing for NHCM because I don’t think that there are that many people applying to this dual degree program, so she might have had the chance to talk to many? But I really have no idea. We should come back on Friday and post whether we are admitted or not just for future applicants’ knowledge.

@bongdali don’t be anxious! You still have a very good chance! She never indicated anything about me being admitted through email, so I am confused even till these days the purpose or meaning behind these “informal talks”. So don’t be so nervous and just chill through your last few days. Btw, I also applied for Emory nursing, I’m sure they have great things to offer if we do eventually end up there!

@bongdali, I agree with @lovemjrnas. If you look through past CC threads, there are applicants who get admitted who never hear from Ms. Smith. Similarly, there are some who do get emailed/called and don’t get admitted. We will have to just wait and see what Thursday brings! Best wishes to all

I have a question. Notice how SOO many universities hit their highest application number (including penn) so their admission numbers are at all time low this year. Do you guys think it’s because there are literally A LOT more kids our year (almost like a baby boom) or is it just people applying to a lot more schools than other years? :-? the only thing that’s clear is that this year’s applicants are some of the brightest kids. It’s major competitive this year for sure.

@northstarfx haha sorry it’s Thursday in the US!!! Friday for me though. Sucks

Good luck everyone! I wish you all the best! I was just at Penn today… LOVE IT SO MUCH!
…and yes @bongdali so many universities have been saying that this year… just our luck right!

@RunnerGirl2213, I hope you put in a good word for all of us fellow Nursing applicants…haha

Haha of course @northstarfx

I’m here at Penn today!! Marianne had a family thing so I met with her colleague but it was great! And then I talked to a current sophomore for lunch. Oh, and Marianne never called me ahead of time or anything so don’t worry if you didn’t get a call. It’s cold here lol I’m from California… cry. But yeah her colleague was super sweet and informative and generous and very congratulatory!

Haha it’s not cold wait until winter and snow…

@kgiesch, thanks for the post! Did you hear anything about how many Nursing applicants there were this year (both ED/RD) and/or how many spots they intend to fill? I read that the Nursing undergrad class is 587 students, which translates into about 147 students per class/yr, but someone said on another thread that last year they only accepted 110 students (with 61 from ED).

@northstarfx I’ve heard it was closer to 100

one more day one more day one more day one more day

They told me 90-95!

@kgiesch, is that the WHOLE projected incoming class, including both ED and RD applicants? I so, I wonder how there’s 587 Penn undergrads in Nursing. Are the upper classes much larger (150-200)?

Also, by chance did you learn how many ED applicants were accepted? It sounds like there may only be 40-50 total spots open for RD…and with 700-900 applicants (just a guess) the chances of being admitted seem pretty darn low.

Yeah I’m not sure… I thought maybe the 587 was grad enrollment but I haven’t looked in a while so I could totally be wrong, because it didn’t sound like upperclassmen classes were any larger, so that’s confusing. And while I heard that a few ED applicants had been accepted, they didn’t give me any specific numbers, I’m so sorry.

I got admitted to Emory today although I don’t know if it’s for nursing!! Hopefully… I’m still waiting for penn’s tomorrow ^:)^
