Does anyone know UPENN's policy on optional recs? I have to say its site is one of the less organized ones regarding recommendations...
"Recommendations
Recommendations from guidance counselors, headmasters, and teachers, considered in concert with your classroom performance, give us a more subjective evaluation of your work. They provide a perspective that may not be evident from mere grades and scores. Penn requires at least two teacher recommendations. These commentaries are quite important, so it is best to find persons who are well acquainted with your work and potential. It is also helpful to us, and beneficial to you, to obtain a recommendation from a teacher in the area in which you think you might like to continue your studies."

I've googled all over, can't find anything. Anyone?

Not sure who would qualify to finite answer this…if it allows optional recommendations, you can submit them. If it doesn’t, you can’t.

Best advice that I’ve seen on these boards is that if the optional material doesn’t give additional information or a different look into what is asked, don’t submit. . For example, if one letter is from your math teacher and he/she discusses how great you are in math, don’t get another letter from a math teacher stating the same. Maybe for you the 3rd letter is from someone who can give info about something important to your major that the other 2 rec letters didn’t.

They get a lot of applications…don’t try to over bore or oversell. Good luck!

@All: The Common App only lets you put down 2 recommenders, and even then, they have to be teachers. I think what we are discussing is the additional (1 or 2) coach/researcher/etc. rec’s.

does wharton specifically appreciate recos from certain subjects… like i dont know… a math teacher (since wharton likes a strong math students) over like some language teacher…or does it go down to just which teacher knows u the best…

@hardworking 21-finally! someone understood what we were talking abt!!
Yeah My question is basically, which mode do they prefer the additional recommendation(one not provided for in the common app) to be sent in? email or snail mail?

@Prinki94: i have no clue, but from what i gathered at info sessions, they said that any documents sent to them just get scanned into their system no sweat. A lot of schools (mine included) still use snail mail for transcripts & counselor forms (teachers can do it online). I hope this helps.
