UPenn or Dartmouth

I'm having a really hard time deciding between these two schools. They are so different but I really like both of them. Any feedback with various reasons would be helpful.

You should consider whether you want to live in the middle of nowhere (can be good or bad) or a major American city (again, can be good or bad).

UPENN!

UPenn I think is more fun. Dartmouth is more for the quieter…I agree with ^

My sister goes to Dartmouth and absolutely loves it. It offers a mix of challenging education with an earthy, laid-back vibe. Yes, it IS in the middle of nowhere, but the size of Dartmouth contributes to its close-knit feel. Parties there are supposed to be awesome, too. They have a “Gatsby” party every term themed like the 20s with a live band.

I think overall Penn is a bit stronger academically, but it’s really up to you

I totally disagree. Dartmouth has a slight edge over Penn CAS at pretty much every single study of placement, whether its graduate placement or into top firms. And its much more laid back and has an amazing social scene.

@ slipper, that’s an unsubstantiated claim and you know it.

@ OP, what do you plan on majoring in?

Agree with bagels, settings are very different. Youll have to decide which on you would like more. Also your major might factor in to the decision.

Disgradius the reality is its not. From the WSJ study of graduate placement, to placement at Yale law, to the percentage of top 5 consulting firms recruiting on campus, Dartmouth has a slight edge.

Dartmouth’s Keggy http://www.princetonbasketball.com/images/keggy.jpg</a> > Penn’s Quaker http://farm4.static.■■■■■■■■■■/3053/2881256213_137f4b6e7b.jpg</a></p>

This is really all about location IMHO. Both have fabulous academics and active social scenes with a lot of Greek influence.

Go where you think you’d be happiest.

Dartmouth if you want 4,000 undergrads and Penn if you want 10,000 undergrads.

Penn has a Gatsby party every year too, but that’s irrelevant…

Slipper, that WSJ study is highly contested on this board because of the grad programs it chose to look at (like including Yale and Columbia Med but not Penn Med, which is in the same league as Harvard and JHU). And the percentage of top 5 consulting firms recruiting on campus? Higher at DARTMOUTH? Come on now, you can’t believe that.

Just out of curiosity, why did you not apply to Cornell? It seems like the perfect fusion of both schools: a thriving mini-city in itself, but within a rustic, natural environment.

@ slipper, maybe its time to start checking med school placements instead? Your point about consulting is moot, if you wanted to do consulting, most people would have applied to Wharton instead hence why CAS is less competitive in that respect.

I’m not saying Penn is better at everything, Dartmouth and Penn each have their own strengths but you’re generalizing.
