I wanted to study both business and international relations and as all of you probably know, these two schools are excellent in one field and mediocre in the other.

Penn has the huntsman program which combines both but the international relations program, as I hear, is quite weak.

Georgetown has the SFS , and supposedly you can do a minor/concentration in business but I don't think it's that strong either.

What would you guys recommend as the better choice if I really want a good education in BOTH fields, and want a good career field?

Or, other suggestionw would be appreciated. Thanks :)

well first of all the huntsman program isn't an international RELATIONS & business program...it is a joint degree program in business - B.S. & international STUDIES - B.A. (meaning more of the cultural side than the political & economic side more commonly associated with Intl RELATIONS). Penn's Intl. STUDIES program is not very strong however, Penn's Intl RELATIONS program is definitely recognized as one of the top 10-15 in the nation (after Gtown, JHU, Tufts, etc.). While Wharton is by far the top UG business school in the country. You can do a dual degree at penn btw Wharton (B.S) & the College (B.A) in business & Intl RELATIONS but this would not be huntsman and would probably require that you do 1 summer session in order to graduate in 4 years with both degrees (depending on your AP credit you might not have to stay for the summer session).

Georgetown has by far the best UG Intl. RELATIONS program in the nation. Their business school is considered kind of a joke at Gtown but is considered one of the top 30 in the nation. At Gtown you'd end up getting a single degree in IR and a minor in business. Minors are usually not really even looked at by employers. Personally, in my opinion, minors are kind of a joke. What you have to take a few classes to get one...big deal.

btw you should also take into account what you want to do after college. If you want to work on Wall St. or in business ditch Gtown as Wharton has much more power & clout in the business world. If you want to work for the State Dept. then go to Gtown...

Georgetown is not "mediocre" in Business and Penn is not "mediocre" in IR. Both schools are highly regarded, but you should do some research as to which one suits you better.

But the courses offered at these schools are pretty much similar. And the international studies major includes courses from the international studies major. Would it be much different from learning IR at Penn if I went to Huntsman?
