@TheWaffleMan149 Haha I agree that it’s strange no one (that we know of) has gotten one yet, especially since Penn’s peer schools have began sending out likely letters already. But a wave of likely letters could be sent out this week for all we know! Even though no one besides recruited athletes should expect to get a LL, I’m still getting more and more anxious now that many others on here are receiving them (or know someone who knows someone who received one).
The LL panic is something I definitely didn’t foresee. I was nervous about my test scores, my mid year grades, my essays. I know I’m going to be scared come March 31st. But I didn’t realize the anxiety begins now with the likely letters. :-S
@TheWaffleMan149 You could definitely still be accepted! Since Penn is ED they could’ve just rejected the students they don’t want to admit, but they deferred you, which means they want to admit you and is waiting to compare you to the RD pool. Best of luck to you! May I ask which other schools you applied to?
@mndt38 I just talked to a person on the admissions committee and she said that they they’re starting next week
Her name is Marianne Smith and she might have sent you an email about wanting to talk!
Thanks @kuriosmind . Same to you! I am hoping that it was not because I was a legacy and because they saw legitimate promise in my application RD.
I applied to:
Northeastern (accepted)
Penn (deferred)
Miami of Ohio (accepted)
Case Western (accepted)
Maryland (accepted)
UMich
BU
Harvard
Princeton
Yale
UVa (accepted)
Tufts
WashU
What about you?
HELLP.
I made a terrible mistake in my Penn supplemental essay!
I wrote “university” in place of “college” at one place. The line was like “…the opportunity to take courses at other universities…” i was referring to the One University Policy.
Is this a big problem?
@TheWaffleMan149 I applied to Penn, Harvard, Yale, Brown, Columbia, Stanford, a couple other matches, and safeties in my country I know admissions, let alone likely letters, are hard to get for international students, so I’ll be eternally grateful if I’m even accepted. At the same time, I’m still wishing for a LL from any of my schools to ease my worries
I’m a deferred ED applicant. Decided to not be a lurker this time round.
Applying to CAS! Not very hopeful at all, though.
Is the “Early Decision Deferred Applicant Update” necessary? I know it says it’s optional, but has anyone ever gotten into Penn without sending one in?
@TheWaffleMan149 I remember seeing your name in the ED thread a while back. Nice to see a familiar name. I was so surprised to see you deferred, though! I thought you’d be accepted.
@veveve Nice to see you too! Yeah I am disappointed about that. I don’t think my odds are nearly as good RD, so I highly doubt I will get in, but I am HOPING that I will
@TheWaffleMan149 I’m surprised I even made it into deferral! :)) My test scores were definitely sub-par, and I’ve never been good at writing essays!
A part of me wishes they had just outright rejected me so I could have moved on with my life. I honestly hate that tiny sliver of hope inside me that I still have a chance - I know it’ll only make rejection harder.
I hope at least you get in. IMO, you really deserve it!
