I wish I had known that I could have applied to other private schools lol
haven’t been contacted for an interview yet… should I just lose hope on the prospect of having an interview? sigh
Hey guys… I think I messed up big time. I had a HUGE application update, and I sent the news to their general address instead of their “eapps” one. So they may have never got it. Is there any chance that if I called and let them know I could still have a chance at getting placed in LSM? Or has that ship sailed?
@businessg101 Do you live in a highly populated or rural area? If so, it’s possible there just aren’t enough/any alums that have volunteered to do interviews. Did you receive an email from Penn saying that they will give you an interview and expect to be contacted by an interviewer soon? I remember getting one in January, a few weeks before I was actually contacted. If so, you can reply to them and ask why you have yet to receive one? If not, just remember that you still have an chance at being accepted without an interview.
Also, is it possible to get into a dual degree program if you didn’t get a likely letter? Do they have weightlists for programs like LSM?
@businessg101 Don’t lose hope yet! While it would be cutting it a bit close for the interview, I just had a phone interview today, so I don’t think that there’s no chance at all that you won’t get an interview – keep your fingers crossed!

The Joint Ivy Agreement says that the eight schools have only two decision announcement dates. One window in mid December for the EA/ED announcements and then a single day in late March/early April — which has now become known as “Ivy Day”. The single announcement date was agreed to so no individual Ivy would try to elbow ahead of the others and somehow “look better” to applicants. Oligopoly in action.
@smollhuman Decades ago, top schools would send a post card to some applicants in advance of Ivy Day. One was “you’re likely to be admitted”. The other was “you’re unlikely to be admitted”.
Hahaha. That’s wild!
@T26E4 likely letters are still a thing today, not just decades ago. Last year Penn sent out likely letters and made a rather big deal out of them, too. I got my information from the admin themselves, so I’m pretty sure that even if they aren’t sending out decisions yet they probably have a lot of them made already
Nobody’s gotten likely letters yet this year right?? Not that I’m really hoping or anything but it’s kind of strange that all the other Ivies but Penn have already sent theirs out
@smollhuman Please re-read my post 307. I know that Likely Letters are used today. Indeed, I wrote this LL FAQ: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/804816-quick-facts-about-likely-letters.html
What I’m saying is that decades ago, schools sent out postcards to some students – how quaint it appears compared to today.
@T26E4 Oh, I apologize for misreading your comment! That is pretty quaint. Too bad they don’t do stuff like that anymore!
I found this http://page217.org/?p=720 it looks like likely letters weren’t sent out until the beginning of March back in 2013
Can we stop stressing about likely letters lol
I’ll be happy just to get in, why are you all stressing about a likely letter?
Who is stressing? People are discussing. Isn’t that what a forum is all about?
Till when does the admissions Commitee continue to review applications? Does it go on until Mid March? Or will it be done long before that?
…so am cleared from an interview if i didn’t get an email yet
@james1998iq my interviewer told me that the deadlines for them to submit their reports was 21st February. Fortunately, he was able to interview me a few hours before the deadline. At this point, you can consider your interview requirement waived. Perhaps there were no alumni available in your area.
@rahuilmars231 do they prescreen interviews? i’m just confused because my three other friends applying got interviews, they have similar if not lesser stats
