Do colleges usually review the FAFSA/CSS for ALL applicants or just for those who got accepted? In other word, do they review FAFSA/CSS before or after making the decisions?
@HelloEveryone27 I feel like it wouldn’t be efficient to make review FAFSA and make all the financial aid calculations if 85% of the students eventually will be rejected. However, I have read on here of financial aid offices asking for additional financial information late in the process and still rejecting the students.
@kuriosmind One school that I applied sent me an email stating that they are starting to review FAFSA and CSS, and asking me to tell them if I will be the only one, who will go to the college, my parents have to give money for, because my CSS and FAFSA don’t match.
That school will release decision on March 12, so I was just wondering if they are checking my financial stuffs cuz I am in…
And also from what I heard they release the financial package decisions at the same time as acceptance/rejection decisions.
@HelloEveryone27 Perhaps? I think you could be under heavy consideration, if thats the case. Good luck!
Congrats to those who got LLs!!
Hey guys, I have also applied to Upenn SEAS and I have a 32 composite score in the ACT with 800 in Mathematics Level 2, 800 in Physics and 800 in Chemistry SAT subject tests. My school offers IB diploma and I am predicted a 40/42 and I am in the top 10% of the school. My ECs are coding and computer based. I have been the head mentor of a hackathon with more than 100 students. I have also become the head of the tech team of a marathon, where I built an innovative system to measure time. I have also played the guitar for more than 6 years and have completed 3 stages. I know my ECs are not too great!! Please chance me for SEAS in Upenn. My essays are majorly about an engineering idea and how Upenn will be perfect for this idea.
@qwerty1309 You’re an Indian, aren’t you
@qwerty1309 I Think you need an ACT of 33 atleast.
@rahuilmars231 dude this isn’t India, where a number defines whether or not you get in. It’s much more complicated than that. The difference between a 32 and a 33 isn’t the width of the Atlantic. 32’s perfectly fine, and is within the range of accepted students.
@McKilla99 ok mister, I referred to an ACT score of 33 only to suggest that the odds of the said gentleman getting in will improve. The difference between them is not vast, yet the gulf between the number of students who are accepted with a 31-32 and the number of students with a 33-34 certainly is.
I would agree that an ACT of 33-34 would be better; the SAT Subject Test scores are amazing, though!
@rahuilmars231 I’m Indian too - just putting it out there. Maybe there is quite a difference in chances with a 31 as opposed to a 34, but 32 and 33? I doubt it. And obviously any increment in his scores will increase his odds, however small the increment.
I meant that he shouldn’t sweat it but that if he wanted to improve his chances, taking the ACT again for a 33-34 might help a bit, as the rest of his résumé appears very strong.
A 32 is definitely admissible, though.
Hey guys thanks for your comments!! But I heard that the average for Upenn in ACT is 33.
Guys. The difference is negligible. That is a matter of 1 or 2 questions, and Penn knows that
Yep - the difference is neglible. But @qwerty1309 - you can’t go by averages because that includes recruited athletes, legacies, donor children, etc. You want to be at 75th percentile if you aren’t one of those.
Yeah @Anonymoose3 , You are right. I am just near the 50th percentile and my ECs are not so strong as an athelete and moreover I bet more than 60% of the applicants have similar score as me.
Essays essays essays.
@qwerty1309 man you and I sound pretty alike with our stuff!!! I’ll be interested to see if we get in. I wrote an essay on moving across the country and how that affected me socially and academically. As for my engineering one I talked about my passions growing up racing and the UPenn racing team would allow me to recreate what I was passionate about and lead me into the automobile industry (which is what I wanna do). Granted you have a point over me ;). Besides that my ECs aren’t impressive either. I work 20-30 hours a week. I am dual enrolled at a university taking Cal C and then just go to school. Personally I think we both have a shot… I believe schools like this have a baseline score that they look at to determine if they should even read your essays and then it’s goes into the holistic viewpoint. Did you get an interview out of curiousity? And if I don’t get in I surely hope you do to prove that the admissions process is truly holistic!! Good luck man
@TheWaffleMan149 I like you. You’ve been supportive of everybody since the start of this thread. I pray you get in RD
