*** UPenn RD applicants discussion thread ***

@Extra0dinary Yep. My chances are low and yet I’m hoping that some admissions officer somewhere will look at my application, sigh, and say, “We really need this somewhat below average student to come to our school and major in business. Let’s accept her.”

@jh1015 Penn doesn’t participate in score choice. All of your scores would have been automatically sent.

@Grapess I have a strong feeling that we are gonna end up as close friends if we both end up in PENN!!! Those movies you mentioned are in my list of favorites as well. Love V for Vendetta

@marie122 on the brighter side, you do have the above-average courage to apply to Wharton, the college with one of the lowest acceptance rate  and I’m sure they appreciate that!!!

Hey, I’ve been reading this thread allllllllllll night because I’ve been pulling my hair out about this Penn decision, and I was hoping this would make me feel better about it. Alas, it did not.

I was deferred from ED in December. In the meantime, I was rejected from Northwestern (which really hurt because it was my number 2 school right after UPenn), Waitlisted at UChicago and WashU (I accepted the waitlist spot for UChicago but not WashU since WashU literally gave me nothing but a hard time and were really rude about their waitlist on top of it all), and accepted to University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, Miami University in Ohio, Northeastern University, University of Rochester, and University of Southern California. I’m still waiting on Penn, Columbia, Cornell, Tufts, and UMich.

My other stats at this point don’t really matter; everything has been sent in, and I can’t change it now!

I’m just so worried. I can’t imagine myself at anywhere other than Penn. I know I shouldn’t have gotten this attached this quickly, but now I’m in too deep and just need the decisions to be out already!

BTW, I’m freaking out even more since before my USC decision, I got an email asking for the completion of my financial aid. We (being my family) didn’t want to look into it before the acceptance, but then I got accepted, and it definitely felt life there was a relation. The fact that some people on here have been getting those emails is super-duper stressful. If you haven’t gotten one yet, don’t panic, but I just don’t like this feeling.

oberlin consistently sent me mail saying I was missing financial documents and I still got waitlisted

@princessgonchar Hey don’t panic too much. I know how you feel, I too really hope to get accepted to UPenn, but haven’t received any documents regarding aid, although it is probably because being an international applicant, they only needed my CSS Profile, which I had sent long back.

And high-five for the UChicago waitlist! That’s my only waitlist yet (yeah, just in case you think that’s awesome, let me tell you, the rest are rejections  :stuck_out_tongue: :(( ), but I hope I can get some acceptances on Ivy Day.

Anyway, even though honestly, we all are freaking out right now, I guess it would be best if we relax and try to wait for a couple of days more. Hopefully, we’ll all get positive news. Good luck!

@blazedragon Im also an international with Wiliest for UChicago, Williams and few other. The rest are rejections. I hope Ivy would be our time to shine.

@lauraazumah Yeah, I really hope so. My top choice Ivy is Princeton, and then perhaps UPenn, maybe because of the fact that they were the only ones who were able to give me an interview  But let’s see. I hope these couple of days go by fast so that we can get to know the decisions soon.
But at th same time, I hope they go super slow, because I really don’t know what to expect on Ivy day. :))

I asked my interviewer how the parties were at UPenn… Hopefully she didn’t tell admissions to reject me on the spot smh

@reppincollege1 LOLLLL my interview was the exact opposite. I am really interested in medical research and like medicine in general and so I kept asking questions about that and my interviewer (graduated 2015) was like you need to have fun let me tell you about the social scene at Penn :))

Waiting… ! Happy to hear from all you bright students on this thread! U Penn is definitely a reach school for me. In the event I do get in, what do you guys think of Penn Vs U Chicago Vs Duke for Math. I hope to eventually have a career in finance!

@syd0898 don’t worry too much! I had garbage subject test scores and still got in! Best of luck!!!

@kgiesch how “garbage” are we talking here? Lol I’m so screwed

Honestly i won’t be surprised if I get rejected here (as well as Columbia). Just gotta keep my hopes low, because they can’t get any lower right??

Anyway, I did have an interview w/ an art history/french major (grad 2010) and it didn’t go as well as I hoped because 1.) it was on the phone, and I hate doing phone conversations and 2.) I had a hard time mentioning Penn specific things I was interested in (this was during a time where I still had SO much jumbled in my brain about what was at what college, so it was hard to remember/confusing). Definitely should have researched better before I talked to her.

But I love Philly and the art museums there are an absolute dream for me, considering I want to major in art history and go into museum work. My grades/test scores aren’t the greatest (highest ACT: 31, SAT: 1870 - I hated having to send in my bad scores) and my GPA is 3.8 unw. My recs are great and my essays are awesome. I have such a strong art/history interest that I stressed. My aunt actually went to Penn and my dad had a book published at their press.

All in all, this is definitely a reach school for me and I would be soso happy if i got in, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if if I was rejected. Good luck to everyone else that applied!!

(Sidenote: I’ve been accepted to URochester, Franklin & Marshall (my top 2 so far), Lewis & Clark, and Brandeis. I was rejected at Vassar and Skidmore, and waitlisted at Sarah Lawrence.)

My subject test scores were 700 math II and 730 chem but I got a likely a while back! They’re not absolute garbage but definitely not great either
@anon9362

Alright that’s no so bad lol

Do you guys think that there’s a correlation between letters and emails for financial aid and acceptances? I just got ones from Penn and Brown???

a kid at my school told me that he received a rejection email from Penn last week??

@kau123 I have heard that rejections are allowed at any time, but also that they are rare. What is the benefit?
Dear XXX
We are just so eager to reject you…
