*** UPenn RD applicants discussion thread ***

Glad to see all these ranges of scores. My son is applying with a 2230 SAT (800/650/780) but 690 Lit and 630 Math 2 subject test scores He was really disappointed when those subject test scores came back. And because he took them in January and was sure he aced them he had them sent to all colleges he was applying to, even ones that did not require subject tests. He’s having the hand scoring done to check for an error because he consistently got 800’s on the Literature practice tests and didn’t think missed any on the actual test. But results will be too late for this application cycle.

accepted at UC Berkeley, USC, Boston U, and University of Miami… terrible SAT subject scores though :frowning:

@CoramDeo7 I was hitting a 35-36 on the act math on every practice test then ended up getting 29 on it twice, I got it hand scored and the score was right. I thought I aced them too, but sometimes the pressure just gets to you I guess

@MijoChbulkan Yeah, the conditions you are put under can drastically affect how you do on the test. I don’t know about you, but when I did ACT practice tests, I didn’t sit down for 4 straight hours – I took some breaks in between sections. Bad idea. Because it doesn’t really train you well. For example, I practice in a warm room with peace and quiet. So when I took the English section, I got about 32-33. But in actual the actual test, the room was FREEZING & all I could hear was the panicked scribbling of pencils & my annoyingly loud heartbeat – and this somehow gave me more adrenaline & I ended up getting a 35.

As for the Science portion, in the practice tests I continuously got 30-32, but in the actual test, since Science is last & I wasn’t used to sitting down for such a long time, I got, like a 28.

Plus, you have to consider the fact that you need about 3-4 minutes filling out the bubbles. So, yeah, a lot of factors play a role.

@chemmchimney Penn requires students send all subject tests if a student takes them. They want the entire testing history.

Accepted to Northeastern (Honors with 25k/year), UNC, Georgia Tech, UCLA, and UNC. Rejected from Duke, Rice, Berkeley, Northwestern, MIT, Caltech, and UChicago… so basically rejected from any selective school rip

Does Penn look at ACT writing score

Eagerly awaiting U Penn! So far accepted to University of Chicago, CMU, BC, Wesleyan and Wash U. Rejected by Duke and wait listed at Northwestern!

@Extra0dinary Omg yes!! It’s among one of my favorites!

I absolutely love Leon: The Professional, V for Vendetta, Stoker, and anything Studio Ghibli.

@chemmchimney I was also wondering a while back if I needed to send my subject test scores to penn or not (they sucked)… But I did a lot of research and found that the college board encourages students to follow each school’s test reporting policy; however, they are restricted by law from releasing any information about each student without consent. So basically the school makes you think that you need to send all your scores, but in reality you don’t really have to.

Here’s the source:

“Students will be encouraged to follow the score-reporting requirements of each college to which they apply, but their scores will not be released for admission purposes without their specific consent. Colleges and universities will only receive the scores that students send them.”

@happy201998 My SAT score was not the best but my math 2 subject test score was an 760 and I want to major in math. My grades in my transcript for math will hopefully benefit me as well.

I had a 770 math 2 and a 760 USA but didn’t send my scores because I had a 680 physics and a 680 bio lol

Well I know that if you don’t send all your scores, they won’t find out. I asked an admissions officer and they run off an “honor code”. But honestly, if I was accepted and didn’t follow the rule, I would always feel sort of wrong about it.

I applied ED to Penn then got deferred. Today I received a letter from Student Registration & Financial Services (it is dated the 21st of March)

Dear Person,

Please note that your financial aid application is incomplete. As of the date of this letter, we have not received the following:

Profile Application
Electronic Profile Record from CSS

We cannot proceed with your evaluation until we receive these documents. if you have submitted any of these documents listed above within the past few days, do not resubmit them.

If you no longer want to apply for aid, please notify the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at info@admissions.upenn.edu

Questions

  1. Does this mean I’m in???
I know penn is need blind so they would only send my stuff to the aid office if I got in, right?
Also if it means nothing why wouldn’t they send me this during the ED round? Why now?

Please give me your thoughts, I’m freaking out!!!

Need blind technically means that finance and admissions departments do not communicate. Financial aid has to process the info for every applicant. Officially, it means nothing (but who knows)

@theamazingexperi
Don’t worry. Just provide the item requested ASAP. It’s a good sign IMO.
GL!
