UPenn Sorority Reputations

I'm going to be a freshmen in the fall and I was wondering if anyone knew about the UPenn sorority reputations. Most of the info that I've been able to dig up online has been pretty outdated.

I'm really interested in rushing and was wondering what to expect, if there is hazing, and what the girls are like? Thanks!

Last year’s post – I’m not sure if the girls do rush in the fall like the guys do, I believe that spring rush is the most popular. Freshmen might only be allowed to rush in the spring, i’m not sure.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania-2013/828466-sorority-reputations-penn.html

I’m a current Penn junior with friends in multiple sororities - heres my rank by general popularity.

Most Popular

 1. Chi Omega / Sigma Kappa
 2. Tri-Delt
 3. Alpha Chi Omega
 4. Theta
 5. SDT
 6. Alpha Phi

When I first came into Penn, everyone was raving about the hot tri-delts, but last year’s pledge class was terrible… same goes for Alpha Phi. Since Phi Sig left campus, it appears that Alpha Phi will sort of take their place as the more awkward of the other sororities.

Chi Omega has been super on the rise, a lot of awesome sophomores & juniors. One of the most popular houses at rush last year. Sigma Kappa is also really popular, a lot of great girls.

SDT will always be for Jewish girls, but they seem super sweet. Ignore all of the rumors about Theta being super into drugs - they aren’t actually on crack, they just don’t eat. Almost emaciated looking.

That’s my honest opinion.

My rating: A Chi O, SK, Chi O, DDD, Theta, SDT, APhi.

Alpha Chi Omegas are hot, SKs are goodlooking - same with Chi Os. Tri-Delts used to be the sexiest thing on campus, but the recent pledge class is seriously lacking.

All the sororities at penn have nice smart girls in the mix, each just has a different feel to it… its penn so you know that they are all pretty intelligent. I wouldn’t believe the drug rumors either, they tend to be just rumors.

The rankings above are clearly by people with little connection to greek life on campus. If you read college acb you’ll see that the consensus is that the top 3 will always be the top 3, and aphi and chi-o both got really good pledge classes this year.
Also, as for the sorority that will replace PhiSig on the bottom of the chain, it’s clearly a tie between chi-o and sk.

My rankings, which pretty much anyone in the greek community would agree with, are:

 1. Theta
 2. TriDelt
 3. A Chi O
 4. SDT
 5. APhi
 6. SK
 7. Chi O

Considering most people who pledges Chi O preffed and picked somewhere else, and considering most people who cross preffed SK and APhi chose APhi, and considering APhi got a bunch of SDT’s pref girls, and considering TriDelt still took AXO’s pref girls, these rankings are accurate.

Dear Penn Girl,
Clearly as you have only posted one time - you are most likely a bitter sorority chick at Penn who is probably in Theta and is sick of getting your reputation trashed. I’m in a frat at Penn and am very involved in Greek Life thank you very much.

The “top three” as you claim are no longer the top three…

A Chi O and Chi Omega are two of the hottest, most outgoing sorority girls on campus. I know a ton of now sophomores that wanted Chi Omega and ended up in APhi or Sigma Kappa… they were extremely disappointed, but it was super competitive last year. Chi Omega has been straight up amazing over the last three years that I’ve been at Penn.

I wouldn’t place Theta at the top of the list or Tri-Delt for that matter. When my brother went to Penn four years ago they were the two sororities to mix with, but no one likes them anymore… Maybe you should take a look around?

There is a difference between sororities that think they are hot **** (theta, tri-delt) and sororities that all of the frats really want to mix with and freshman girls really want to rush (chi o, sk, a chi o). Just FYI.

Joe/Penn Girl - Some of the rankings on older threads are really out of date and I think that some of the sorority girls are bitter because they want to believe that they are still on top.

Hands down, Chi Omega is the best sorority at Penn. No questions asked. In second place I’d probably tie Sigma Kappa and Alpha Chi Omega. Alpha Phi is the replacement for Phi Sig, which is what I’ve been hearing around campus. Just my opinion.

I know it’s not considered a sorority…but is Tabard still as great as it used to be or has it been going downhill?

i think generally speaking, the rankings have been and still are:
tier 1: tridelt, theta, axo,
tier 2: sdt, chi o
tier 3: alpha phi, sk

i’ll just say people have different preferences or “types” of girls they like.

guys who like down to earth, sweet girls will prefer axo, chio, sk, or aphis.
within this type, axo and chi o are top

guys who like party girls will prefer theta, tridelt, sdt, and tabard.
within this type; theta and tridelt are top.

so no, i don’t think chi o is “hands down” the best sorority at penn. they have been doing good but
seriously, check collegeacb.com to get a better gist/consensus of this type of thing.

there’s so many people gushing about chi o on these penn sorority related threads…and especially since most of 0xsunnydayx0 and fatboyjoe’s past posts are predominantly about chi o, copy and pasted. i used to simply browse CC, but i just found this really odd and slightly misguiding (?) so its my first time posting, and prolly will be my last time…this is just my two cents.

…and no, im not a “bitter sorority chick,” so please don’t point fingers. these posts were just REALLY ODD.

im a guy in the frats and im gonna give a very simple rundown

Tier 1: theta/tridelt
theta is very international/downtown-y- nyc/miami/la scene
tridelt has the most southern girls and overall very attractive girls

Tier 2: SDT/A Chi O
SDT is completely jewish and also pretty attractive they also have alot of the city scene and many of them coulda went theta
A Chi O is pretty down to earth, attractive, some are slightly tom boyish, but theyre deff good to mix with

Tier 3: Chi O, SK, A Phi
Both of these do have attractive and down to earth girls, but overall just not as attractive or desireable as the others. Honestly, they may not be the same tier, but at this level it doesnt really matter.

Tier 4: that new sorority whos name escapes me but is composed of all the rejects from the greek process.

Oh and Tabard… I guess its tier 1, but it is COMPLETELY international/city scene… most of these girls were in between this and theta. many choose theta just cause thetas a real recognized sorority although tabard does have its exclusivity and its awesome hazing process. If youre into this scene youll love them, but if youre not, youll never see them. definitely attractive though.

ok, so this thread seems to be really outdated, i’m assuming because people used collegeacb up until it got shut down recently. here’s an updated list of the sororities, by tier

top tier
tridelt - blonde, fun, your classic sorority
axo - atheletes, definitely down to party
theta - a little edgy, known as the sorority that does coke, but that’s not necessarily true anymore

middle tier
sdt - the jewish sorority, that’s about it
chi o - nice, on the rise, but don’t really go out that much
alpha phi - nice, fun, definitely down to party

bottom tier
sigma kappa - definitely going downhill, still has nice and pretty girls, just not as cute as they once were
zta - just started off this spring, they got a few good girls but they’re just starting so they haven’t made an impression yet

the top and middle tiers are pretty interchangeable within. i just wanted to post an updated list because a lot of the previous rankings are from 1-2 years ago and a lot has changed since

and yea, i agree with ponyo, this gushing about chi o is a little misleading. they’ve definitely improved since they were at the bottom with phi sig about two years ago, but in no way have they climbed to the top with a couple good pledge classes. a lot of it seems to just be chi o posting about themselves and stepping on other sororities. i know for a fact from one of our mixers that their rush chair told them to do that

since this hasn’t been updated in a while…
Tri-Delta: the usual tri-delt stereotype from other colleges doesn’t apply as much at penn. they’re all very pretty girls–some are super slutty and superficial, but there are also a lot of interesting and intelligent ones

Chi O: nice grils but developing a rep for trash-talking other sororities. pretty divided between the socialites and stay-at-homers. pretty enough, mix with decent frats. their house is absolutely gorgeous though.

Sigma Kappa: flies under the radar. they mix with good frats, but more of them end up dating one brother than hooking up with three. known for being classy, pretty, quiet, and super involved in other campus groups.

AXO: divided between the “a-chi-hos” and the “a-chi-bros.” very very fratty, super chill but also super energetic. sometimes criticized for being “too obsessed” with each other, but that also means they have a really close sisterhood

APhi: their upperclassmen are still those quiet-girl-next door types, but their most recent pledges classes have become slutty verging on outright trashy. a mix of pretty

Theta: very very very scene-y. openly flaunt their sense of superiority (and midriffs). individually, can be really lovely girls, but get crazy and coked out when in a group. easily identifiable.

SDT: yes–they’re the jewish sorority. they tend not to mix as much with the other sororities and non-jewish frats. really sweet, and pretty girls though. (and their house is awesome!)

ZTA: still new on campus and struggling to recruit members. a lot of zetas aren’t typical sorority girls, and were looking for campus involvement and leadership positions. don’t mix with frats too often.

Honestly, this representation of sororities is completely wrong.
Tridelt- some decent and pretty but overrated and not as good as in past, mix with cool frats
AXO- bros, some pretty some too bro-y, but cool girls, mix with cool frats
Aphi- older girls are boing but their current pledge class is pretty and generally very highly regarded, mix with cool frats
Theta- coked out, downtown-y nyc and la girls, mix with cool frats but very self selective
sdt- jappy jappy jappy not great girls, mixes with cool frats but prefers jewish frats
chi o- some sweet girls but generally mixed reviews
sk- not a great reputation but some good girls tossed in
zta- irrelevant for the most part and doesnt mix

but check out collegiate acb for more accurate full reveiws

Whatever bros.

First, it’s horrifying to me that even at ‘elite’ academic schools, women are reduced and ranked by how they look.

Second, how in the world do people party so much and still pass their classes? I am a Penn student and do not understand how it’s possible. The academic work expected at this school is no joke.
