UPenn vs ETH Zurich vs UofT

Hey everyone!

I've been accepted into University of Pennsylvania, ETH Zurich and University of Toronto for their graduate program in Electrical Engineering.

Really confused about where I should go! Any thoughts/suggestions/information on student life in these universities would be appreciated :)

hey ninja26,

well, of the three universities you named ETH Zurich is BY FAR the best one, especially if you consider engineering. According to the Times Higher Education rankings, it’s 9th in the world:
http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2011-2012/engineering-and-IT.html

As for student life, the competition is high and you should be prepared to work really hard. However, to be able to study with Europe’s top students pays it off.

hope this helps.

UPenn is not particularly strong for graduate engineering. Both ETHZ and Toronto are fine, but ETHZ probably has better resources.

ETH is the strongest technically, and also appears to be the best cultural opportunity, at least if you are from North America.

Thanks a lot guys, for your suggestions! I have decided to go to ETH Zurich and will be starting this September :)

Sweet! You won’t regret it. ETHZ is where a lot of mankind’s wealth of knowledge of physics came from. They have star studded math/physics/engineering faculty - not to mention how awesome of a country Switzerland is.

Hi ninja26,
If you’re still active, could you comment here or PM me about the applications process you took to enter ETH Zurich? Is it difficult? I seem to have a similar set of schools as you do. thanks!
