UPenn Wharton Chance Me? I'll chance you back!

Greetings from a frequent CC lurker, but new poster.

Asian, 11th
SAT - 1 sitting 1550 (750 CR&W, 800 Math)
ACT - n/a
SAT 2 - world history (800), math 2 (800), bio & us history (taking this year)
GPA - uw 4.0, w 4.5
AP - world history (5), chem (4), euro (4), stats (5)
AP future - apush, ap lang, ap bio, ap environmental, ap physics, ap gov&econ, ap lit
Leadership - principal chair cello, varsity golf co-captain (4 years on varsity golf), music club president, NHS vice prez, CSF class rep

Community service - 200+ hours in marketing, 300+ teaching kids music
Summer - science/math camp (summer after 9th grade), internship with local newspaper (summer after 10th), business internship/minimum wage job (summer after this school year)

Awards - regional cello stuff, golf team league champions, scholastic writing (journalism) awards, comp sci competition award, homecoming princess (LOL I SHOULDNT INCLUDE THIS)

I’m kinda uncertain about my major, drifting between business/management/entrepreneurship OR journalism.

I enjoy journalism and im a decent writer, but im not good enough. Plus, I like math, which is kinda unrelated to journalism. I also didnt join my high school newspaper, so journalism is probably out of the question.

Other business schools I’m looking at - all UC’s, U chicago, northwestern, MIT sloan, yale
I feel like my ECs are rly scattered and unrelated to business, which will probably hurt me.

I tried starting an FBLA club sophomore year, but none of my school teachers were willing to put in the work and be the advisor. Also my school is rly sports oriented and basically nobody wanted to join my FBLA club and it failed…

thanks in advance and ill chance you back! :))

In 2015, the UPenn Wharton School acceptance rate was 20.7%. Based on this and your profile, I would say you are a strong candidate for admission. 1550 SAT is very competitive for UPenn and your 4.0 GPA is great. ECs are good. You’re a junior, right? I would say add a little spice to your application by maybe doing a study abroad or volunteer abroad summer 2k17  mine in thailand was the best experience of my life…

chance me back if you can!

Wharton’s acceptance rate was not 20.7%. The acceptance rate was definitely under 10% (most likely from 7 or 8%)

Your stats look competitive for admission. With a great essay and description of your EC’s on your common app, you have a shot. It really doesn’t matter whether or not your EC’s are business related. Sure, an internship would look good, but just try to sell yourself and make yourself stand out in the other areas that you have invested time.

Good luck.

lol guess the internet lies about whartons acceptance rate

@silas1829 You found the MBA acceptance rate online.
