UPitt vs SUNY Bing vs SUNY Stony Brook vs UConn - PLEASE HELP

My child has following options

UPitt (Honors) - no scholarship - OOS - 5hrs
UConn (STEM Honors) with STEM excellence scholarship - OOS - 2.5hrs
SUNY Binghamton (Honors) Research Immersion program - no scholarship - instate - 3hrs
SUNY Stony Brook - not sure yet on honors - presidential scholarship - instate - 1.5hrs

Major: Biochem/Neuroscience with pre med track

Trying to decide which one? can’t make a decision - please help.
Anyone has experience with pre med at any of the above places?
All 3 except for Bing have hospitals associated to hopefully help with clinical experience.

Is the hours the distance from home?

I am more interested in the cost implications for each- and especially if there is debt involved. Can you include that?

@collegemom3717

Yes its driving hrs from home.

Per year cost - no debt
UPitt ($33k)
UConn ($31k)
UBing ($27k)
SB ($10k)

No debt is great.

More questions:

Does he have any preferences?

Would not spending the extra the extra $80K by going to SB free up money to pay for med school?

Do the UConn or Bing honors programs get him anything particularly useful?

SB - If he doesn’t get honors at SB, the first year classes are huge - a current graduate said 600 students in general classes!! Also dorms are supposed to be awful(: roaches are common - my child has insect phobia (I am not joking). Staying top of the class may be hard especially pre med with vast majority going pre med, hence committee letter may be not so rosy.
UConn STEM honors is a mini group within Honors with dedicated housing, a separate advisor in addition to honors advising, research opportunities from year 1. He might be able to shine better - advantage for committee letter?
Bing - instate - would it provide an advantage for instate med school application?

forgot to tag you on response above

Since OP has described Stony Brook as a very, undesirable option, Pitt–if affordable–is a great option in a great city.

Binghamton is a borderline terrible, dying city so, in my opinion, Pitt is well worth $2,000 a year extra.

Schools like SUNY-Binghamton and Bates College are great if the cost is low, but otherwise do not offer an exciting college experience. Pittsburgh is becoming a dynamic, prosperus city & UPitt is an excellent school with a very healthy endowment.

If offered honors at Stony Brook, then it may be the best option.

The difference appears to be $6000 per year.

One thing on UConn, the hospital is not really near the main campus of Storrs, it is about 30 minutes away. Pitt is in the city and may be a better fit.
