Son got into CWRU (cost $52 after merit), SUNY Binghamton honors instate $27k (FRI program also) and UConn STEM honors (cost $32k after merit).
Biochemistry major and pre med track so will need research, clinical volunteering and good pre med advising.
Currently attends a large NY public school.
Thoughts and opinions please?
All of these colleges offer the necessary resources and academics to prepare a student to apply to med school.
Actually doing what is necessary for med school is solely up the the student.
Adcomms don’t care what undergrad an applicant attend. GPA and MCAT is much more important. CWRU’s name doesn’t offer any real boost to a med school application.
Because med school is extremely expensive, pre-meds are advised to minimize undergrad debt.
Since SUNY-Bing and UCONN are about the same price, pick the one that offers the best fit.
Agree with above poster. Was your son able to visit all the schools?
I personally do not think Case is worth almost double the cost. As noted by others, both Bing and UConn will offer all the necessary courses for a possible medical school application.
Save your money, because Med school will be funded by loans, loans and more loans.
@taverngirl
we have visited both Bing and UConn - both are same driving distance from home and son liked both! haven’t visited CWRU.
@WayOutWestMom
Being instate for SUNY Bing - do you think will provide advantage for instate medical schools (SUNY Upstate/Downstate/stonybrook)?
For instate med schools, the primary consideration is the student’s state of residency. Attending an in-state college won’t give much if any boost.
@brown2024
Go with your in-state choice. Your were active in bsmd thread last year. Did your S not try any bsmd programs ?
