Hi, everyone,
I found the UCD website very confusing.

My orientation is coming up, and I was trying to figure what classes should I take. I am a transfer design major student and finished IGETC. When I talked to the design counselor about what class should I talk, and she told me to take DES 1, DES 40A, and DES 16. Getting the first two classes are no problem, but DES 16 is a studio class and it is already full. The counselor told me if I could not get DES 16, take an upper division elective class that is #100 or above.

Okay, here is the question, I looked into the UCD course website and it said If I finished IGETC, I am done with the general education. Also, most of the classes with #100 or above has prerequisite. What elective class was the counselor talking about??

I can’t take any other design major classes either as all of those classes need DES 1 as prerequisite. No way I am going to take two classes and pay such huge tuition. Any suggestion on what classes should I take?

Sometimes the pre-requisites are only recommended, not required so make sure you watch out for those.
Also, electives are classes that don’t necessarily go towards your major. Perhaps you can take something that’s related but not under Design. You might have to wait until Pass 2 to register if it’s not open to your major, though. (My advisor gave us a list of restricted electives, I don’t know about yours)

Check out your major’s requirements.
There are lower division and upper division requirements so… most things above #100 are upper div.
My counselor said “Just take something that looks fun if you can’t get into anything else.”

You should have asked your peer advisor about this stuff at orientation! They know a lot more than me. :x

@neverneverland: their orientation is coming up
some upper div classes in history and music don’t have prereqs, and some of the ones in music that do don’t necessarily require them.
