i've signed up for room swap, and i think i hvae two options of oxford housing or mary markley... i'm currently assigned to bursley...

what do you think i should do? what're the pros and cons of each?

i've signed up for room swap, and i think i hvae two options of oxford housing or mary markley... i'm currently assigned to bursley...

what do you think i should do? what're the pros and cons of each?

I'd go with Markley....seems theres a lot of freshman there

i've heard that markley's out of the way... kind of far...
but not worse than bursley? because at first i was discouraged that i was in bursley, but people keep telling me it's a fun dorm, full of freshmen, with the nicest dorms...

Markley is on the hill no? It's a 15 minute walk from the diag (if you're slow) while Bursley is a 15 minute bus ride... (I'm from NYC, I used to have to take a train for an hour and twenty minutes, both aren't too bad)

so how is markley and oxford in terms of... the people (fun?)...
i don't know, the general atmosphere of the dorms?
compared to bursley? i don't know what to do, i've been given room swap offers...but i heard all of these good things about how bursley's a fun dorm despite its bad location. but all of my courses ARE on central campus so... just go w/the swap? how are the oxford houses?

Where are you switching out of? Have you actually heard from people who are wanting to swtich out of these places?

switching out or bursley, and yes i've actually heard from those people.

Michigan alum from way back...

I lived in Oxford for two years as a junior transfer. It's really off the beaten path for freshmen; I wouldn't recommend it if you're a frosh.

The hill dorms (including Markley) were party central when I was still there, probably still are.

Bursley is probably a fun dorm, but life is so much easier if you're on the main campus, so I think Markley is your best bet.

I agree with garland Markley is the best out of those choices...oxford does has some people who go out and party but its hard because its sooo far walking to South U and Hill Area is very easy from Markley.

but i've heard that markley is a crazy/insane dorm... are there many freshmen? is it true that it's.. crazy/insane/etc. ?

oh and this may sound weird but...
where are the most... asians? between markley and bursley?
i'm not trying to sound... idk but i'm from singapore and id be comfortable (at least a little more) where there are more asians...

I can't answer about Asians, but if you're looking for quieter, more sedate, then I'd go with Oxford.

College should be a place where you get out of your niche and experience something totally different. UM is 12% Asian (a very large percentage for a school not on the west/east coast, and this stat includes ALL of Asia) so I highly doubt you'd find an Asian dominated area. I suggest just joining some Asian clubs and not go to a dorm because of ethnicity (I'm Chinese myself, so if you go to Markley you'd probably meet me :)). Bursley is located in North Campus so you'd probably meet many more engineering students there and you'd meet more LSA ones in Markley. But, you can almost guarantee that all both of the dorms are going to be crazy/insance since freshmen (especially me!) want to party. I'd go with the one on Central since the 15-minute bus ride is going to be a pain especially if you have morning classes or gaps in your schedule.

okay so i'll probably go w/markley.

but then again, wouldn't it be better to have a 10 minute bus ride instead of a 10 minuite walk, especially in the coldof michigan?

You still have to walk to the bus, and from the bus stop to your class. Plus standing at the stop, waiting for the next bus.
