This has been bugging the heck out of me! lol like I keep having nightmares about that "C" having fangs and eating my college dreams! How much damage is it gonna do? Like I had two B's 2nd semester sophomore year and then straight A's junior year to senior year (AP & Honors)

Applied Vanderbilt, Duke, Northwestern, UCBerkeley and others but these are the ones I'm concerned about :)

I have 2 C’s in hs , Chemistry and MUSIC LIVES. Really, Music Lives…I had no idea what was going on most of the year (don’t play an instrument, can’t read music and didn’t realize it was for people who were involved in music) and they wouldn’t let me switch out. It really bugs me. The Chemistry is the science I didn’t get but I was in Honors for Earth Science in 9th and aced Physics in 11th so I hope they look at that.

It’ll be fine. Maybe not for an Ivy, but at most colleges they’ll see that upward trend and it’ll be good. Some (sorry, can’t think of any off the top of my head) disregard Freshman year completely.

On a side note; I got an 800 on the SAT II Math 2, the C+ I got was in Honors Algebra 2/Trig. (sophomore year 1st semester), which I improved to a “B” second semester. So if they really do a “holistic” review, then am I given consideration?

The Ivies I applied to were: Brown, Dartmouth, and UPENN (Wharton)
I’m relying on my EC’s and essays to pull me through haha

I doubt any school would throw you out for a bad grade freshman year of high school. Many colleges only look at your sophomore-senior year, anyway. As for Ivys (and other top-ranked schools), most of the admissions process is holistic.

No, I’m not saying he wouldn’t get into an Ivy. I’m not even saying it would matter, I said MAYBE. I’m just saying it’s honestly a possibility that if he were to apply for Harvard or something, there’s a possibility that C MIGHT actually have an effect.

Asian Male
Rank: 30/776
Subject tests:
SAT II USH - 800
SAT II Math 2 - 800
National AP scholar

EC’s: I do marketing for a green-technology NGO, I wrote my essay on lobbying UN delegates at a conference in Namibia, Africa.

I think my stats make me eligible to apply (just getting paranoid about that one “C” man!), just hoping to get lucky with unique essay/activities.

Despite your sophomore grades you have a top 5% rank, surely thanks to your rigorous AP load. Natl. AP Scholar before senior year is rare, perhaps 800/year.

Being Asian hurts as much as the C, but neither will prove fatal, I think.
