UR as a Richmond Scholar or JHU?

So I was admitted to my top four favourites. Middlebury College. Williams College. Johns Hopkins. And UR as a Richmond Scholar. Although midd and Williams are top schools in the country I've basically ruled them out because of how cold New England is (I'm from the Caribbean and can barely handle 40 degrees). So now I'm torn between UR as a scholar and JHU? They both gave me the same amount of money. I don't know what to major in exactly but I know I want to go to Law School for Environmental Law. Please please help.

cassie, shoot me a PM with your email address. I know a guy who was from Curacao who may be able to give you some Caribbean perspective on UR.

cassie, see my comments on your W&M post. If law is your interest, I doubt Hopkins can give you undergrad opportunities the way UR can.

Cassie, have you decided where you are going?

Two great choices Cassie!

My D was offered an Artist Scholarship at Richmond and really loved the visit to campus in March for the final audition. There were so many really accomplished people auditioning for the scholars program, and at the university. As you mentioned in another post, there were a number of people with offers from Top 20 universities who accepted Richmond for the great education, individual attention, and the chance to save some $ for grad school. Scholars also get some preference in class selection, and mentorship from their advisor which can also be useful. It’s quite an accomplishment to be a Richmond Scholar. My D fell in love with the program at Richmond and has accepted a spot. Her second choice was Michigan, where she got some merit aid but not much. Other choices were NYU and William & Mary.

Her friend, who applied to Richmond RD with a 3.9 GPA unweighted/4.4 weighted, 33 ACT , 9 AP’s, and lots of EC’s , varsity sports and leadership was waitlisted at Richmond, so it is an accomplishment just to be accepted. He’s hoping to make it off the list but the odds are low. He’ll probably accept an offer to be a Capstone Scholar at South Carolina–another great program.

My daughter was accepted as a boatwright scholar and we visited the school on the days for all Richmond scholars. We love it very much. The professors are awesome. They have funding, do research with undergraduate students and publish papers. In comparison with the big research university like JHU, you can get much more attention from those professors. In the school, I got a copy of the syllabus of a class. The professor for the class allows the students to stop by anytime for any problem for the class. My daughter also get other offers from other great universities, but she decided to go to the University of Richmond.

I have decided! I am going to URichmond as a Boatwright Richmond Scholar and an Oliver Hill Scholar. :)

Hey Cassie! Welcome to Richmond Class of 2017! I don’t know if we met during your visit, but let me know if you have any questions anyway :)
