Hey everyone I was accepted to Richmond early decision. I was wondering what the best dorm option would be for incoming freshman girls. Thanks!

There are only 2 freshmen female dorms on campus: Lora Robins Court and Moore Hall. Unless you choose to take part in one of the living and learning communities ([First-Year Communities - Living-Learning Programs - University of Richmond](http://livinglearning.richmond.edu/first-year/index.html)), you don’t really have any influence on your housing freshmen year.

Both dorms are pretty decent, though naturally both have their good and bad bits. As far as I’m concerned, LoRo is a bit nicer looking (because of simple things like not having cinder block walls like Moore which makes it feel a bit less institutional) and is near dhall, Gottwald, and Modlin, the latter two of which are convenient if you’re taking science or arts classes. Unfortunately, LoRo is the only freshmen dorm on the Westhampton side of the lake. Moore is located among all 3 freshmen guys’ dorms, is right next to the gym, and is closer to the rest of the academic building but a relatively far walk from things on the Westhampton side of the lake.

You’ll be just fine no matter which dorm you’re put in.

My Soph daughter was in LoRo last year in sub-free. Too bad that is only available for freshmen. It was very quiet and very friendly.

Another dorm note…there is a woman at UR that personally matches roomies. She is amazing! My d had an awesome roommate last year who, unfortunately for my d., chose living and learning for her soph year and will be abroad next year. I have heard many, many positive comments about her roommate matching skills.

Thanks AlwaysAmy and PAVenturer! Your comments are very helpful. Do alot of freshmen girls choose to live in substance-free housing?

Two years ago I understand sub-free was about 1/2 of one floor. Last year when my daughter was there I think the entire first floor of LoRo was sub-free. I don’t know what this year was like.

Subfree housing is in A Base of LoRo again this year. I think pretty much all of A Base is subfree (so 26 girls), but I think about 1/4/1-3 of those girls are just there because their parents pushed them into it. I have a few friends in A Base who explained it to me that that those girls are known to come back drunk occasionally, but they’re not supposed to actually bring substances down there, so it’s still on a much lighter scale that they have to deal with it. Those friends I know who do live down there are happy with their choice.

Long story short, very few girls elect to live in subfree housing and even some of those who do aren’t even subfree.
