I am wondering about the dorms at richmond. Any suggestions? Horror stories? Or advice? thanks, congrats to all those who got in!

I am pretty sure there are only 2 female freshman dorms. The largest is Lora Robins, LoRo for those in the know. I read that these are ok sized rooms, controls for heat and AC in each room and screens on the windows. Bathrooms are down the hall and cleaned daily by the school staff. I have in my notes that the basement rooms are substance free rooms.
I wish I remembered where I got this info so I could go back and read the whole text.

I think I read that the LoRo dorm rooms were bigger than the Moore rooms.

Most freshman guys spend a decent amount of time in Loro, and the rooms were definitely smaller than my room in Moore (back when it was a guy’s dorm). Loro has a close community in each section of the hall and is all freshmen girls. Moore does not have individual AC/heat controls. Moore is closer to most academic buildings, the recreation center and the library, while Loro is closer to the science building (Gottwald), D-hall, the theatre, the senior apartments, IM fields and the post office.

Though the Moore rooms SEEM like they’re bigger (because they’re more of a square shape), it’s true that LoRo rooms are slightly bigger if you crunch the numbers. However, the size difference is hardly noticable and shouldn’t be a factor in which dorm you want (especially since you don’t get to pick anyway )

Honestly, they’re both great. I wouldn’t worry about which one you get put in, because both have their advantages, and both are close to lots of things.

I lived in LoRo my freshman year. The floors are done in blocks (A, B, and C). I think A-basement is usually the sub-free section. The block layout really bring the hall together. My close friends are girls who were on my hall freshman year.

I haven’t been in Moore, but I do know that Moore has cinder block walls and LoRo does not. The closets in LoRo are pretty big, too, for dorm closets. LoRo is on the Westhampton side of campus with the dining hall, post office, arts center, classics/religion/philosophy building, chapel, the deanery, and the science center. It’s also the closest dorm to the apartments, so it’s easy to get to parties but not so close that you can hear them from the dorm.

Is there a roomate survey?
& is there a lottery system where you rank your dorms?

There is a rather detailed roommate survey that housing will send you…probably once they get your deposit, I would imagine. If I remember correctly, you can choose to live in sub-free, which would probably put you in LoRo if there’s room. Other than that, I don’t think there’s any space for you to list where you’d prefer to live during your freshman year.
