UR "too southern" for a NE kid?

We live at the Jersey Shore (nyc commuter suburb) and have heard about local kids who loved UR and others who thought it was too southern (I don't know what that means). One kid who seems to have a lot in common with my s transferred to Wake Forest and loves the difference... Isn't Wake further south?
UR looks great on paper, we have not visited yet. Any insight from NE or SE folks would be welcomed.

Yeah, Wake is further south. I'm from NJ too (Central, Princeton area!), but I'm a transplant from the South. However, a lot of NE kids go to Richmond. I think it's something you need to experience before you know if it's for you or not.

The big difference, I think, is how friendly people are down there compared to up here. There's an emphasis on hospitality. Sometimes the dining hall serves Southern food. Richmond is a big Southern city... We're known for being preppy, I suppose, but that's not universal, nor is it a solely Southern thing.

Definitely visit Richmond & UR.

Click on the map. There are a lot of students from NJ & NY.

URichmond is northern, Richmond is southern (or, rather, proudly southern).
