Will Northern Kid fit in?

I'm considering Wofford, I've heard good things about the school, however, according to the admission stats, most students are from the deep South. I get along with just about everybody. Will I have trouble fitting in because I'm an agnostic from northern NE?

I hope someone replies because I'm interested in finding out the same thing for my daughter. We're from NY.

I live here in SC... I just got accepted to Wofford. I know a lot of people that go there, and most kids are from the south... but everyone is so open and friendly I wouldn't be too worried about it!

we are northern transplants living in SC. I don’t think you will have any problems fitting in down here. The people of upstate SC are some of the friendliest you will find anywhere in the country. My child did not have any problems adapting to live here in the upstate. Wofford is an excellent school!

Last year we had the same question about a midwesterner fitting in at a southern school. My S ended up attending a school close to our home region. It was a hard decision. Convenient travel and decent airfares were factors that influenced part of the decision. Good Luck!

There were 4 freshmen from Connecticut there this year. It seems to be an undiscovered gem.

Interesting! We will be checking Wofford out next week.

Wofford is also a first choice here and we are also from NY…western NY. We had a really great visit back in February. I hope it is the same for you.

I would like to visit Wofford.

My wife and I grew up in Chicago. We moved to Texas 15 years ago, so the Lone Star State is all my DS knows. We visited Wofford three times for tours, scholars day, Richardson interviews, and this week we’ll go for orientation.

We’ve found the campus and staff gracious and charming. I will admit that even Chicagoans now seem a bit fast-talking and brash, but the pace at Wofford seems vibrant with southern hospitality as a garnish.

I’d encourage you and yours to consider Wofford. We drank the Kool Aid and couldn’t be happier about our DS’s decision to attend.

PM me if I can answer any questions.

I live 5 minutes from Wofford so I see the students that go there often in downtown. I know many of them too. They are all really nice kids. my cousin goes there and she says that there are quite a few “yankees” there! It is a very conservative college, but that shouldn’t matter.

I plan on either going to Wofford or CofC next fall so…yeh, check out Wofford and good ol’ Spartanburg!

PS. if you end up going to wofford, you might want to get a few bowties because it is very preppy (vineyard vines, southern tide, etc)
